How do I get van to regen?

Hi I’m very new to all this and brought my van last week. I’ve got a Carista Evo so I can read the soot levels live as I was paranoid about causing issues with the amount of short journeys I do. Soot levels reached 22.7g so I just took it for a 40 min run on the motorway and kept it above 2000 revs but it hasn’t done a regen and I’m now on 24.7g.

Did I do something wrong or does it just not need to do one yet? From what I’ve read it will need to burn the soot off between 24-30g but I assumed if I gave it the opportunity it would just do it.

Drive it. After the requisite mileage, once its up to temp itll do a regen.

Thats always assuming there isn't a fault or some muppet hasnt mapped it out.

Mine will start to regen between 28-30g, you then need to drive for 15 minutes or so to complete the regen.

Regen won't kick in until soot level reaches around 30g, or it will kick in as you reach your destination (according to the law of sod) "Long runs" until it gets to that level won't burn anything off, just add to the soot (as you discovered). Once it does start a regen you will notice stop start doesn't kick in, slightly higher revs at standstill and maybe a smell if you are outside the van. Occasionally turning the engine off mid-regen shouldn't be too bad. The problems start when you only ever do urban short trips and never give it a chance to burn off. If ours starts a regen when I get to work (it's a daily driver) then coming home the long way round on the dual carriageway for 20 mins usually does the trick. As a guide mine regens about 3 times per tank of fuel or every 150-180 miles. Another member (I think @Bigsidavies) resets the trip after a regen so you can see when one might be due.

Yep, it's mainly to monitor that the regen distances aren't decreasing since I had the egr mapped out. But it does give an indication of when one is due.

Van will only regen if more than 1/4 tank of fuel in there.
Not true, mine will start even if the fuel is in the red area with less than 50 miles range left.

As an aside my van starts its regens at 24g. So there must be different software versions. Typing this the regen goes from 24g -> about 8g. That means it burns off a massive 16g of soot (16g ffs), takes 20mins or so and uses a sh1t load of fuel in the process. Its even more of a con than I always thought.

Ok - maybe my mouth shoots before the mind gets a chance to think. :notworthy:
6.1 DNAA - manual says it will only regen if 1/4 tank of fuel or more.
My manual says 1/4 tank minimum, but as im an old copper and never park up a vehicle with under half a tank, I've never put that to the test.

Have you watched the film Speed? Much the same, I recommend the M25 at 0300 in the morning.

Drives so much better during a regen, but more grunt from the extra fuel being thrown in?
Out of interest, have you ever tested it? I’m sure my manual says that but it’s not true. I was really surprised the first time it did it. I very rarely let the tank drop so low, but it has happened a few times.

I've driven it, does that count? Haha

Reading this site & the potential problems is making me paranoid & I’m just waiting for the EML to rear its ugly head. Thank goodness I seem to be between faults ATM. 🙄

MTBF is determined by the cyclical nadir of your bank balance. :(

That’s why I brought the Carista Evo, I can’t afford to kill it!
