Hope someone here can help my with my 2024 (74) VW Touareg.

I have bought a "simple" tracker which the instructions say just needs connected to the positive and negative terminals of the battery. The tracker has negative and positive wires but no inline fuse.

The Touareg battery is hidden somewhere else in the car and so has the connections in the engine bay, next to the bulkhead are as in the attached picture.

Questions are:

Can I use these connections for the tracker and should an inline fuse be used.

Thanks.1000004735.webp

No reason you can’t but you won’t get a particularly low amperage fuse for the tracker. Lowest you’ll probably get is 30 amp

Maybe use a 30amp midi fuse and drop down to a ANL inline fuse at a more appropriate ampage?

I’d not bother with a midi fuse. Just solder or inline crimp an in line fuse holder (Halfords sell them) onto the end of your positive for the tracker. Then crimp an appropriate sized ring connector onto the end of that. Unbolt the 70 Amp nut (possibly looks M6?) and pop your tracker positive over that and pop the bolt back on. Take off your earth from a suitable point, again easier with a suitable sized eye bolt crimp. Job done.
Do it with the ignition off and you’ll not be drawing anything of worth on the 70 amp fuse.
Look at the current draw or power of your tracker and work out the fuse size from there for your in line.

I’d fit a 1 Amp fuse myself to start with and go from there. ‘12 volt planet’ sell them (do an internet search). I wouldn’t buy any from Amazon etc as I’d be sceptical of the quality. If you go on 12 volt planet you can buy a few 1 amp, 3 amp and 5 amp for pennies. You’ll also get your in line fuse holder and crimps.
For reference my dash cam is fitted with a 1 amp and I can’t see it drawing anything more than that. The fuse protects the wiring on the tracker which will no doubt be rated very low. 👍
Edit to say the technical spec in the manual should give you the max power or current draw.
