is it fitted to all as standard in the drivers mirror or if required fitted at factory to match the head unit fitted?

VW never fit anything that is not ordered, right down to different looms with less cables.

But if you get a new radio it will come with a gps antenna that you can hide behind the glovebox/dashboard

I have got a discover media head unit to replace the original which is getting unlocked and sorted, i have part of the loom, just need the gps module thats circa £30
May hide it elsewhere and see if functions ok, save door trim and mirror strip down if pos.

There was a gps module in my wingmirror even though no GPS headunit (I fitted aftermarket). The wire terminated behind the door card.

oooooh...... i looked as far as the zip up blag overbag that is in the a pillar...might be worthwhile looking in the doorcard then? assuming blue wire/plug etc..??
im avoiding touching mirror at moment purely so not damaged/marked at all if not required.
