Changed my fuel filter this weekend, looks like the Main VW dealer mechanic used some sealant to improve the fit?

didn’t know this was a thing?

I’ve worked with Diesel fuel systems for decades, clean fuel is all that’s ever used.
There are specialist fuel sealants such as https://www.google.com/aclk?sa=L&ai...iSmIGMgPzyAhVGT8AKHRY4AJcQ5bgDegQIARBI&adurl=
Used for problematic repairs not routine assembly. I certainly wouldn’t use it inline with an injector or fuel pump.
It maybe silicone grease but that’s not good practice either.
Just because they are main dealers doesn’t mean they are competent!

I've never needed to use anything like that when changing a fuel filter, I don't know why they thought it was necessary.

Do the fuel line connections go that far down as all the pipes seem to have a stop? If it was a sealant and its gone hard I think you would have struggled getting the lines off.

I wonder if it is something from manufacture of the filter?
