Hi all,

A couple of weeks ago I had the flashing coil light and auto stop start fault come up while I was on a drive felt like a loss of power, then the van broke down and had to be lifted to the garage. They put it down to the DPF being blocked, so it got sent off for cleaning.
Refitted and has been fine until today.
Now got the same fault back.

Read some posts about turbos and oil sensors but nothing definitive.
Has anyone managed to diagnose it?

Cheers
Jim

A diagnostic scan would be useful, the flashing coil light means nothing specific!

I had it in the garage and they plugged it in and found a split turbo vacuum hose.
Hoping that's it.
Have ordered Carista now, so should be able to diagnose a bit easier.

Hi Nicky,
A hole had worn into the turbo vacuum hose.
Had it replaced, not had any issues since.

Hiya bud,

Does this seem to have sorted your issue mate??? I’ve had the exact same problem but my van would start back up and drive fine again for a while afterwards, until the next time. I know you mention you had yours recovered so I presume you’d tried restarting and it wouldn’t have it? Just trying to find out what my issue could be! Dangerous it is, we were going round the corner and it cut out, lost power, it had stalled, so no power steering etc and mine is auto so had to put it back into park to restart it! Not good with cars behind you on a Welsh hill road!

Cheers would appreciate any help.

I’ve got the exact same symptoms as this currently. Will be fine for weeks on end, then not. Turn off ignition, turn back on…fine again. Has cut out on me once also. But absolutely fine 95% of the time.

I’ve just read through this thread mate and it seems very similar to my issues too, don’t know if it’s any use to you? I have to work it out as it is bloody dangerous. It did it at a big roundabout the last time!

I’m doing over an hour drive four days a week so I don’t think it’ll be anything to do with a blocked dpf as I don’t hang about.

I’ll have a good read through mate. I’d actually convinced myself I must have stalled it until I read your post. I’ve also noticed the engine sounds more 'Throaty’ than I remember it being before. But again, not enough to be convinced it’s not always been like that.

I do a few hundred miles a week in mine & it does it very infrequently (Start/Stop Error, flashing coil) with a lot of stops. So been putting it off getting it in to be looked at, as I’m always hoping after a couple of weeks that’s it’s sorted itself out. But inevitably it does it again eventually…

Mine is exactly the same. I also convinced myself that I had managed to stall it until it happened a few more times and when someone else was driving.

I try to look after it too. She’s serviced regularly, I put a new larger battery on not too long ago as well. It’s my baby, but I’m currently falling out with it!!!

Same as that mate. Need to find the time to get it in for some investigation now I think. A lot of wishful thinking been going on, hoping it’ll just go away

Hi All,

Mine had been very intermittent, but two weeks ago coil light flashing and loss of Power. Pulled up. Restarted and light went away. But it has a whistle from the engine, reading post was hoping it was a failed boost pipe.

Unfortunately it wasn’t, my turbo is on its way out. Took it to a garage Tuesday, he has said the DPF is clogged. The back pressure has nowhere to go causing issues with the turbo and lack of boost. Nobody else had picked it up, so the turbo has been working over time and is on its way out.

Mine was regenerating but not clearing anything out of DPF. So I would check if you are getting pressure from exhaust. I am booked in to have DPF cleaned out and a new Turbo next week.

I took my van to 3-4 places and couldn’t find an issue. I have regenerated manually too through the Carista. That would be my first check.

Hope this helps.

Blimey not good news then mate!

Im going to have a hunt around for a good specialist down my way later & make a start trying to get it figured out. Hopefully you get sorted next week & that’s the end of that for you buddy

Yeah shit news, my Lowering fund down the drain

I have had my at places that just do VW and couldn’t give me an answer, I find nobody wants to work on Transporters.
But mechanic did say the stop start fault just gets thrown up because of another fault which has occurred. I would make sure you are getting decent pressure from the exhaust.
Yeah fingers crossed that’s it done, only had my 6-7 month so it’s a kick in the teeth.

Same for me actually. 6 months in. I’ll check the exhaust today & see if that’s doing anything that’ll point it in a certain direction. Nice one for the heads up mate.

Think I preferred it when I was pretending it’d just fix itself eventually tbh

That was my plan, was told the actuator was sticking and possibly full of crap, so smashed additives through it. Thought it had cleared as didn’t come on for 4-5 weeks. But then it just happened.
Sure if you stick it on a diagnostic device it can tell you how full the DPF is I think, tells you the amounts in it and the limit.
Hopefully next week mine is sorted and can crack on into the summer with no problems.

Morning dude,
So the short story is; I broke my shoulder and wasnt able to drive for 2 months, when I first started the van up it had the flashing coil and stop/start error.
Turned it off and back on and it was fine. Drove it around local for a week or so, with the intermittent flashing coil, and occasional loss of power.
Then one day was driving up Goodwood hill near me, the coil light started flashing, loss of power, load of smoke then stalled.
RAC took it to a garage for me, DPF was fully blocked, had the DPF removed, cleaned out and reinstalled was fine for a week.
Coil light started flashing again, then it turned out to be the vacuum hose.
Not had any issues with it since.

That’s what I was hoping for, just a leaking hose. Had a smoke test done and found no leaks.
Think I have left it far too long and Turbo is just giving up. What I thought was an air leak was actually the turbo whining and on its last legs. So hopefully it will be all sorted next week and back on the road.

I’m booked in with Marshalls in Reading now. See what comes of it. Earliest availability was 25th March with a courtesy van. Hopefully they can get to the bottom of it & sort it under warranty!
