Fixing awning to roof bars.

I am wanting to get myself an awning.
I have standard roof bars fitted to my T6
I don’t want to have an awning rail unless I have to.
I was thinking of cutting some slots in one side of the tape bit that normally fits in the awning rail think it’s called kador and strapping it to my roof bars either with strong Velcro or some small straps of some sort.
Then hope fully join the awning to the kador with the fig 8 strip.
Has anybody done this or think or would work?

My awning has Velcro straps built in which I just tie round the roof bars, very quick and no noticeable leaks

Not overly worried about a bit of water, just shut the door if it rains.
What awning do you have?

Having exactly the same thoughts about attaching our recently purchased Vango Siesta awning. The fitted velcro tabs wrap around the standard roof bars but with the van being SWB it’s leaving the ends of the awning quite loose. Have ordered Vango driveaway kit which has the figure of 8 and double Kador strip, and also getting some wide velcro ties. So will cut slots in the Kador strip and velcro that to the bars, will see if it works...
