First timers - mattresses, awnings, and much more

Hi

Excited first timers to a new black t6.1 4 berth conversion and we need some help.

We like our comforts and hubby and daughter are not campers.

any general tips on fitting it out and what do you really need? List is long and everything is expensive, so we need to prioritise and get it right.

any space saving tips would be very useful as planning on taking body boards, surf boards and sup’s on our travels.

Mattresses - We have a pop top bed and a rock n roll bed - do we need mattresses? Any recommendations? Can we leave the mattress on top of the board of the pop top bed? Can you leave a duvet up as well when pop up is down/travelling? Have anyone purchased duvulay mattresses?

Awning - as there is 3 of us we think we need an awning - probably a drive away, air, self inflating with option for a bedroom. We would use the awning for sitting, storage and toilet? Any recommendations?

Window blinds/cover for cab - any recommendations for night cover for cab windows?

BBQ/multi purpose cooker - we have a two ring hob in the camper but will mainly bbq and cook outside - any recommendations eg Cadac

any help/tips would be appreciated.

looking forward to our first trip

thanks.

Hi, and welcome to the forum! :mexican wave:

Presumably Deep Pearl Black, so make sure to join the Team and post some pics, we love pics!

There is a lot of information on the forum - you can try the Search button, but often better to do a site-specific google search.

Awning - see these threads, a lot of information, pictures and reviews:

Although I don't have one, I would not use one for the loo, would rather use a separate pop-up toilet tent and stick it at the back. Nothing better than getting a look at them in the flesh as well, imagining sitting in them, cooking, moving round etc.

Mattresses - most people seem to need at least a topper. We have duvalays, lovely and comfy but can be bulky. Can't help with the space in the pop-top, search for your roof on the forum (there are loads of roof manufactuerers) as lots of people discuss this.

Window blinds - insulated external will prevent condensation better when it is cold, but you have to put away wet in bad weather. But you can also get the ones with the eyes, or your own image even! Pro's and Con's, like everything!

Cooking - lots of Cadac users on here, @Dellmassive is always a good place to start:

Take some time to work through the Camping & Campsites sub-forum.

As general advice, buy and take the bare minimum you think you need first time, most of us have a stack of things we bought but then don't use. Half the fun is making note of things you need and forgot, and then nosying round other people's setups and finding things you'd never thought of! Most everyone is usually only too happy to show off their van and camping setup, especially to a fellow Transporter owner. My own favourite thing is our drainer, it's brilliant!!!
