External Door Handle Colour Coding

To avoid those not so nice 'clip on' door handle covers used to change external door handle colour, I would like to have all the external handles painted or dipped

Do both drivers doors, both passenger doors and the tailgate handle come off nicely to go away and be coloured?? (Kombi)

There are a couple of companies that offer an exchange service for this and a couple that sell 'dipped' handles. As for the removal, I can't advise on that, i'm afraid.

Thanks Fish. Since posting my original question, I have spoken with a Transporter conversion specialist and they have confirmed the door handles can come off. You apparently have to take the door cards off and remove them from the back / inside.

I didn't like the sound of it, sounds quite an intrusive scary job to the uninitiated like me. I'll seek some extra reassurance when I go in but the plan is to have the handles painted

LoL ..... OK, so I've decided that the side of vans, nearly every van, even a Kombi with its windows, can look like a big slab of unbroken colour

I've stared and stared at the side of mine, then pondered some more and decided that the black satin side bars help alleviate some of that aesthetic issue but then suddenly it dawned on me. The door handles shouldn't be the same colour as the great expanse of metal that is the side of the van.

I'm going to have all 5 handles (tailgate) painted in the same matte black that the rims, side bars and roof rails are. That should all tie up nicely on the eye, not be a styling step too far and generally make the van look more of an expensive finish.

I think this picture will help visualise it. You can see how the painted handles will 'tie in' with my side bars and roof rails without it being over the top :

@Shredder
Please just take this as a different point of view and not a criticism, but I think it looks stunning as it is in that pic.
Black on Grey is the perfect combo in my opinion, and it's a colour i'd of been tempted with, but it just doesn't work for what I wanted sadly.
If you are converting it, are you putting the glass in the rear quarter ? because they will make a huge difference to what you see as a 'Grey Slab' if not, google image the Grey with full Black glass, and you will see it works really well. I think you might go to the extent of doing the handles, and it just looks like a lower spec T6 that's just not had it's handles colour coded, but could be wrong. (although the Black handles works well on the Orange T6)
Why don't you spend an hour with some Black insulation tape, and cover the handles. Then take a couple of pictures to study. That way if it doesn't work, you can just remove the tape, and it's not cost you a penny.
Also, have you considered the Edition stripe like I have? There now seems to be a few vans that have gone the Edition stripe route, and some of them look great, plus it really breaks up that vast colour you are seeing.

Again, just another angle from different eyes.

Great input thanks Tourer. I particularly like the idea of a bit of black tape ! I'll try that as I am definitely not converting it.

I had forgotten the basic commercial vans have black handles and I wonder if it could look like that. I could try a black accent on the handle (pic2) rather than all black. I'll keep mulling.....

another option is plastidip for a trial .. leave it for a bit, see if you like it then remove and/or make permanent

Hi mate, do you know the company’s that sell or exchange handles? Cheers

I have a full set (not the tailgate) door handles in the basic black... came off when i found a set of coloured matching ones..

I think the black handles would look good, but like tourershine says it looks great as it is....

I think its all about personal preference.... With all the grey and black, I'm planning on going down the route of adding a small amount of yellow to mine to break up the colour grey and give it a bit of personality and attitude.

I think it works well and is less common than the orange / grey combo colour scheme... although I wouldn't go as far as getting the roof re-done in the bottom picture..!
