Eurotunnel - A Sneaky Little Trick ;)

Yep. They spotted that work around about a year ago. Was only about £60 cheaper though. Still, it was nice to have while it lasted.

By sensible hours I mean not in the middle of the night.

I generally travel between 8am and 10am and stay close to the tunnel the night before.

I have just booked a single trip back to the uk on the tunnel for next June as we are going out on the ferry in April to Spain and then driving back up through France. It was £97 for a single.

Last week went to belgium, booked last minute and it was 155 to France and 205 to Folkestone .
This is the most I have paid ever.

Have I don't something wrong here!?
We have booked Return to Calais July/August leaving 5am returning 9pm and it's £477!
We haven't booked the Flexi option because it was even more, booked with my reg for a T32 LWB as a campervan with length between 5m-5.4m and have just realised with bike rack on it's slightly over on length!
Are they strict on vehicle length does anyone know?

You’ll be fine. As long you’ve marked down you have a bike rack on the booking will be all good.

We love flexi plus. You can stock up on snacks and sandwiches for a few days :slow rofl:

We never book return just do it a few hours from Calais on the app. Also book cheapest after midnight, rock up 2/3 hours early and normally pay a few euros extra and get on next train. Done this for last 5+ years and out of the 10 trips only got our allotted slot once.

No bike rack on the booking it says ya don't need to declare it if your a campervan?

Cost me £385 when I booked earlier in the year to take the camper over in July to August. Substantially more than I’ve paid in the past!

That sounds really expensive. I booked the same class as you (10/08 out 28/08 return, both departures at "prime time" 3pm) for for £273 (plus £46 for the dog).

But it has gotten much more expensive. We moved to the UK 9 years ago and have been in the tunnel 22 times now - it has tripled since 2016.

Maybe I should not have declared being a campervan! First time using the tunnel, first time abroad in the van, don't wanna get ripped off but also don't want to be refused travel for being 20cm longer than I have stated 😬

Worth noting that they changed their t&c earlier this year in regards to certain tickets and being able to change bookings or turn up early or late.

Seem to mainly impact cheaper non flex tickets.

Changes

Eurotunnel LeShuttle's ticket terms and conditions changed on March 5, 2025. These changes impact how customers can amend or change their bookings, particularly regarding late arrivals and ticket validity. One key change is that if you arrive more than one hour early, you won't be accommodated on an earlier departure. Conversely, if you arrive less than one hour before departure or later, your ticket is void and you'll need to purchase a new one. Additionally, certain tickets, like Day Trip & Overnight, have limited flexibility and are non-refundable.

Here's a more detailed breakdown:

Key Changes and Considerations:
  • Arrival Time: Arriving late (less than 1 hour before departure) invalidates your ticket, requiring a new purchase.

  • Early Arrival: Arriving more than 1 hour before your booked departure time will not allow you to travel on an earlier train.

  • Amendment Fees: Changes to your booking may incur an amendment fee and/or a fare difference.

  • Ticket Validity: Tickets are generally valid for the selected travel date and time.

  • Amendments: Amendments must be made within one hour of the scheduled departure time.

  • Return Journey: If you miss the outward journey, the return journey remains valid under certain conditions.

  • Flexiplus: Flexiplus tickets generally offer more flexibility and may be refundable.

  • Non-refundable Tickets: Some ticket types, like Day Trip & Overnight, are non-refundable.

  • Online Booking: You may need to confirm you have read and accepted the terms and conditions during the online booking process.

  • Contacting Customer Service: If you need to make changes to your booking that cannot be managed online, there may be an additional fee.

"Arrival Time: Arriving late (less than 1 hour before departure) invalidates your ticket, requiring a new purchase."

That's going to catch a lot of people out !
