EGR needs replacing. HOW? Where can I find a Manual or who can give me advice.

@Dellmassive , @DXX

Thank you both for your support,👏 VW have approved and warranted the EGR work to resolve the internal coolant leak under the All-One warranty 😊

Hopefully 🤞 this will sort my issue out.

Thanks 👍
Ask them to check the coolant pump, that was where my leak was even though VW said, initially, it was the EGR.

Having EGR issues & not sure I fancy doing it myself as I stopped working on cars years ago when they became so anti DIY.
Local private VW garage quoted about £1100 to replace it with genuine parts. They also said we can disable it & map it out for £475. According to them it won’t affect anything on the MOT.
I wondered about the legality of this & potential issues if I sell it on in the future.
Has anyone had this done & what was the outcome?

I have been informed that disabling the EGR is illegal and an mot fail if discovered, you may have other information. Do you really wish to drive an illegal vehicle and suffer the costs of that if found out, eg a police investigation following an accident or something else. What would your insurance company think? Your decision!

If the Police are carrying out such a detailed investigation into your vehicle, you've probably killed somebody.
I don't advise anybody to mess with the emissions system, but after a serious collision Police are looking for factors that might have caused or contributed to the collision, a deleted EGR isn't one of those.

The controls around MOTs are getting tighter - last time the van was MOT’d they plugged a dongle into the ODB11 port - I guess this is a way of identifying software alterations - time will tell!

Any disabling or tampering with the emission control systems on a vehicle in the UK is illegal.

It's in black and white.

Egr cooler is a common job on the T6 and needs to be done every 60-80k.

It's a £600 OEM part with 2-4hrs labour.

Around £1k is average.

Just get it done and carry on..... Knowing that you're legal and doing your bit for the environment.

Or buy the valeo version off amazon (sold and shipped by amazon) for about £280 and pay a garage 4 hours labour to fit it. Shouldn't be more than £600 all in.

Got a link no for that? ,,,, (I know there are a few versions depending what engine you have)

Sure. Mine is the CXGB engine.

Says it fits my van despite saying its Euro5 but then a quick cross reference with autodoc shows the same model......

Thanks for the advice I might see if the garage can fit a good quality comparable part. Had a few of these go on my last car just out of warranty 🙄 then 2 years later Eventually took it to the main agent & they did some minor modification & put it in an ultrasonic bath or something similar. Never a problem again. Don’t know exactly what the mod was but it can’t have been much at £140. This was on a Tiguan though.

I’m a little surprised that the garage offed it as an alternative.

Removing your AdBlue system is illegal for road-going vehicles in the UK and many other countries. While technically possible through software (ECU remapping) or hardware removal, doing so violates emissions regulations, causes MOT failures, and voids insurance.

...

Key Implications of Removing AdBlue:
  • Legality: It is against the law to knowingly drive a vehicle without its designed emission control systems on public roads, with potential fines of up to £1000.
  • MOT Failure: Removing the system will result in an MOT failure.
  • Insurance & Warranty: It can void your insurance policy, making it invalid, and will likely void the manufacturer’s warranty, leading to expensive repairs.
  • Environmental Impact: Disabling the system significantly increases dangerous Nitrogen Oxide (

While some services offer "AdBlue delete" (e.g., Adblue Delete and Removal > JF Automotive - Maidstone, Kent JF Automotive, Is AdBlue Delete Legal in the UK? If you are facing expensive repair costs for your AdBlue system, the legal and safer option is to have the system repaired properly rather than removed.

I only said the garage offered the EGR delete which surprised me & I just wondered if anybody had any knowledge of this. It didn't sit comfortably with me anyway.
Thanks for the information. I'll probably see if one of the reputable local garages will quote for replacing it with perhaps what @Howzat suggested to keep the cost down.👍
