EGR Faults T6 2.0

Hello, I’m new to the forum and I’ve been looking at a lot of posts but I can’t find a specific answer to my question. We have a 2018 T6 2ltr Euro 6.

A few weeks ago we had the orange engine light come on and our carista gave the following fault codes:

15560 – EGR Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
25126 – Databus error value received

We cleared the codes and went on a very long journey (Birmingham to Cornwall and back) with no engine light. After another long journey a week later the engine light came back on but this time with these codes:

15560 – EGR Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
32807 – Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Efficiency Below Threshold

After clearing again and going on a long journey the 15560 code came back but with no engine light. So it seems the engine light only comes on when another fault comes up. The van drives really well and there is no juddering or anything like that.

We are travelling to France in a couple of weeks (approx. 1500 miles) and are really concerned that if we don’t sort out this problem now we cause a lot of damage from driving it. Is this something to worry about and will we need to get the dreaded EGR Valve changed before we go away or is it unlikely to cause an issue and we can sort out when home? Another problem is I don’t think we will be able to get it booked into a garage with such a short timeframe and we wont be able to test it out much before going away if the work is done.

Any advice on these codes and if the van is safe to drive would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

My 2017 4Motion has just had the engine light come on too, and has presented with the same 2 fault codes as yours:

15560 – EGR Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance
32807 – Exhaust Gas Recirculation Cooler Efficiency Below Threshold.

I cleared them using Carista and have driven another 150 miles, so far the engine light hasn't come back on.

Did you manage to get to the bottom of it? Cheers

Hi,
We had someone look at it from VW and they said it just needs a software update. Apparently it is an issue that crops up on these vans and is a software issue rather than a new EGR valve. He did our MOT a month ago and said he knows it is not a faulty EGR valve as the emissions test was good. We are going to have a software update which he said will sort it. Not going through VW though as it will cost a small fortune. Apparently a software update will cost around £150.

Its worth looking into this software update thing before changing the EGR valve as that is so expensive (we have three quotes ranging between £2500 and £1500).

Hope you get something sorted

Hi, just wondering if you have had anymore joy with your EGR fault codes and if you have had a different outcome to us?
Thanks

Hi, I was just wondering if you have got any where with this, my van is showing the same 2 codes and not sure what to do. Do we need a new EGR valve/cooler?
I have since deleted the codes and now only the 15560 code shows up.

Thanks.

This sounds quite similar to my circumstance.

I bought a 2017 Multivan in January this year second hand from a dealer. 82k on the clock. In very good condition.
Literally the second day of owning it, the engine light came on. As the car has 2 pre-paid VW services, we took it in to the local VW dealer for a service and to get the light checked.
They said "passive fault" and cleared the light and did a Service.

1 week later the light came on again. We took it back and they had another look and found that the air filter was very dirty and replaced that. (side note.. i was shocked that the air filter was not checked on the service the week before but they said that 'wasn't part of that scheduled service'. It is insane to me that you'd perform an annual service and not change the air filter. Oil and Air should be the MINIMUM for an annual service!) As I am in Australia, I'm covered by 3 month statutory warranty because I bought from a car dealer. So they paid for this inspection, code reading and Air filter replacement ($700 AUD)

10 days later.. Engine light is back on.. Take it back a 3rd time and I was pretty blunt with them that if there is something that is suspect, we need to do it now while I'm covered by warranty. They call me back an hour later to say "yes, you need a new EGR valve". So I'm now booking it in to get a new valve while its under warranty.. I'm pretty happy with that as it will cost me nothing and a new EGR is always good.. but wondering now if its a software issue and not the valve at all. Ill be very very disapointed if the valve is replaced and the engine light continues to appear

All this time the car has been running perfectly, no loss of power, no limp mode, nothing strange.

We have one more pre-paid VW service, but after the air filter situation, that will be the last for VW Australia. There is a very well respected private garage that specializes in Audi and VW nearby. I think they will get my car going forward as I'm sure they will do basic things like check the air filter when they service it!

We ended up having to have the EGR valve changed. When we was told it was a software problem it just didn't make sense and we didn't want to mess with the software and have further issues down the line. We took it to the main dealer and they confirmed it was the EGR valve. If you can get a new EGR Valve covered under warranty I would go for it as they are not cheap (around £1600). We managed to get a good will discount from them so was happy with that.

The van is driving really well now and there are no lights thankfully.

I would recommend getting something like a Carista to check the codes yourself. This group was really helpful when searching for the codes. Everything pointed to a new EGR rather than software.

Hope you managed to get to the bottom of it and get it sorted.

Hi I have a 15560 single fault code also
What was your outcome?

There isn’t a nitrous oxide emissions test in the UK MOT. The EGR is installed to reduce NO.

Just had mine done £685 at an indi - van feels so much better - probably not VW part but as almost a disposable happy.

Update following the van breakdown with coil light illuminated
Dealer flushed egr and stated keep driving and see how it goes! Regularly topping up oil since breakdown, notified dealer as have all in warranty.
oil consumption test suggested and it passed which I was very surprised and disappointed as I’m putting in more oil than the test stated. So now I’m out of all in warranty and hoping for the best. I also used premium fuel and all seemed well with no warning lights . Then 7 months later the coil light came on again 155160 and P0402 P20EE dpf?
Dealer said EGR required
I had to wait for booking apparently still ok to drive!
The coil light reset itself but I stopped driving annyway and researched intensively on line.(AI)
Darkside developments suggested a oil sample test kit which I purchased from them
Had the results back high iron 104 ppm, soot level 1.7%, (high) viscosity 57 cst @ 40 cst, too thin since 5000 m since last oil change .
So not good news Darkside Developments had stated that it will ultimately require short block as the piston rings have damaged the linings hence the high iron.
The EGR is booked in with the dealer but now could be a waste of £1500 to replace it as the oil is
Apparently being burnt off due to blow by, Which will continue to get worse and affect the dpf and turbos eventually.
I decided to drain off the contaminated oil and replaced with filter as a short term measure not as a remedy but couldn’t stand the thought of it in there but I’m still reluctant to drive due to causing more damage .
I have reached out to vw and questioned the oil consumption test results and the fact that the dealer has always insisted that the coil light was a result of an intermittent faulty EGR and no other reason but I questioned whether that was due to the oil passing the faulty piston rings and that the egr on occasion, and could not cope with excessive flow and caused valve to malfunction but then reset itself (theory) I am a layman trying to get my head around all this
I’ve had the van from new and would like to keep it. But a new short block and labour with egr and turbos but not including dpf cost £14000 isn’t very practical is it ? Do I love the van that much?
As mentioned earlier I did have an all in warranty to avoid these costs but I was only advised by the dealer to carry out the consumption test at the time only recorded 0.1 litre / 600 miles ( I had reported 1 litre/100 miles) I have read the test is flawed as it relies on sensor readings compared to the weight method.
I am reaching out to the forum for help and advice
All suggestions welcome
