Coasting - DSG

Hi all. I can't see the 'coasting' option on my MFD. Is it available as an option or is there another problem? Is there alternative way to turn it on/off?
T6 Velle SE BMT Petrol DSG 204... TIA

I've seen that on mine but I have no idea what it does. Can anyone enlighten me plz. Ta.

Breaks drive when you take your foot off the throttle, it effectively puts you in neutral so the van ‘coasts’ and has no engine braking

Bit like the old School autos feeling then ?
Not for me, I like engine braking.

Works really well with flappy paddle steering wheel. You want engine breaking, just tap a paddle.

I like the coasting function, good for easy pootling and planning in advance, helps with fuel efficiency. If you want engine breaking just tap the brake pedal and it goes back into gear

Slipper clutch is different, helps for changing to a lower gear at high revs e.g stopping the rear wheel skipping on a motorbike

Ah I see, if braking puts it back in gear then I can see the point

I might have a play :sneaky:

I've been impressed with the DSG box. I generally prefer manuals but my last car was an E class Merc, you don't get big mercs in manual. Auto box was really relaxing.

Something about the DSG box makes the van feel more car like to drive, on hilly or twisty roads you can stick it in sport mode or into manual to stop it changing too early but generally it's just a very relaxing thing to drive. Particularly in traffic. I was actually looking at manual vans but this DSG van came along

The coasting thing with brake was something I didn't have before and I only found it by playing around with it, it's surprisingly intuitive

The previous owner of my van had turned the coasting function on.
I turned it straight off as soon as I found out what it was, I didn’t like the feeling at all, it felt like the van was running away all the time.
I could be wrong, but I can’t see how it will save any fuel. I was always under the impression that any unburnt fuel was returned to the tank when the engine is not under load.

We tried 'coasting' on (factory default) for 4 weeks then switched it off. Made no difference to mpg.

I prefer predictive driving. I don't want to keep using the brakes unnecessarily.

Been off ever since.

Turned mine on now, little drive yesterday any defo makes a difference. Its intelligent though which is good. Sheffield, Rotherham is very hilly so I'll see if it it's a pro or a con in those situations.

So I saw Coasting mode mentioned (and pictured) on the Caravelle facebook group the other day, and naturally wanted to find out what it's about...as my van hasn't got it and I want it to try

It seems some vans have it available and some don't, often the Bluemotion vans that had it in T5.1 anyway. It's not related to coding or the instrument cluster as to whether it's available, it seems. What I'm trying to work out is whether it's down to the DSG software version, or whether it's down to certain DSG box codes or something like that. I did see something from a tuning company that said with a DSG remap they could add coasting mode on 'pretty much any DSG box' so hopefully it's just a software thing.

It would be mega helpful if anyone who has coasting mode available could post a VCDS (or similar) scan of the Auto Transmission module (02), mine (without coasting mode) is here...

The other thing I'm trying to figure out is how to identify the correct flash file to update the DSG software to see if that brings coasting to life. Mine identifies as a 0BT300045P on sw version 1801, but when searching the Flashdaten folder there's letters displayed after the software version which I believe are relevant. In my case I'd hazard a guess that "ljG6" is most likely to be correct as the sw version numbers are closer to what I've already got but if anyone can explain how to work it out for sure it'd be much appreciated
