Difference is one chooses what one communicates on here, well aware everything is public. Telephone everything is eavesdropped by computer then moves up the line if it triggers interest nothing is private. Modern cars communicate where one is how its being driven every sensor. Mobile phone transmits its location frequently even when turned off, can even eavesdrop and so on perhaps some just like to draw some sort of line when they can.You guys are bonkers. You don’t want smart meters as you think they’ll invade your privacy, yet you’ve all got WiFi installed at home.
You also tell the world all about your lives in various forums and social media.

We (family of 4) were made to get a water meter when we moved in and they were round here in no time to install but our neighbours (elderly couple) were asking for years to get one as with just the two of them they didn’t use much water, surprisingly the water company was always too busy to install theirs!
It’s what the water companies use to ensure they have the money to invest in new infrastructure to ensure we have a guaranteed supply and that our waste water is treated properly and so protect the environment our rivers and beaches from becoming covered in raw sewage.
Sorry I jet quite a little bit but I have to supply all our own filtration, pH Ballance, purification, testing no assistance from any agencies. this is not peculiar to me but is the same for many similar types of properties. Trying to update it in near future. Many years ago when we where searching properties many small holdings and farms had own water and no electricity no gas no phone. We had electricity only coming here a couple of decades before our arrival no gas own water but surprisingly an unreliable phone. Some properties had elaborate means of extraction using solar and wind, generators and so on and some used artesian type pumps that require flow from rivers to power supply. All similar properties in out of the way or remote have septic or similar tanks for wast treatment before discharge flow or taking away/pumping by tractor for what ever way is required to be rid of it be it spread over land as fertiliser or taken to a treatment works septics and some other reed bed or compost systems do all of that for one. All great when it is going, a pain when not, its either fix ones self or pay private contractors or do without. We were unusual in having electricity supplies it would have cost an absolute fortune to have it connected now same for telephone miraculously we had a line though for over 20 years the cable was just run along the ground or buried by neighbours when it crossed there land often failing due to breakage or lightning ground strikes. Believe it or not we have cable here now it came when we where away could not believe it many in the region have exceptionally slow internet i mean faster to stand on a hill with flags semi-fore. Think the latter is a Government initiative I understand so they can interrogate ones PC in an instant impossible before.Ha Ha, I have even met old post masters and mistresses one who walked many many miles to all these little properties and an even older one who use to deliver by horse right to the door. You would be less concerned if you realised how poor my computer skills and know how are. I very rarely text and my daughter could have printed out a complete essay by the time I sent the even the smallest text. I loath multi hit keys to attain a single letter in the wrong case!The more I read the more I am alarmed by you wanting to live as remotely as possible and not want the government snooping on your computer.
Even loosing the text all together after struggling to write anything not knowing the text short cuts and needing to write huge pieces of text just to explain the simplest of things. I am sure the authorities are convinced that my dire spelling and misprints effectively jumbled and changed wrongly by spell checkers are some sort of communications for Martians or Spies.
I love wild life and wilderness and to be deep into the country without farmers or badger baiters fox hunters and other malicious people about trying to destroy wild life kill trees cheating at subsidies and all of that sort of thing. Over tourism in many parts of the country is not doing it any good though am fortunate here so far and although it is good to have new settlers and ideas too many at any time is like an invasion and assault on life and nature. Properties being bought out for holiday rental AirBnB We used to have fantastic dark skies here once but city dwellers are afraid of the dark and so like to light up the night sky even when they are bound to be asleep benefit of solar panels ect, speed limits in most crazy places and none where they are needed.
