No I watched a video on u tube of a guys horror to this. He put links up to details of the law.
I remember the £1000 fine and chance of imprisonment.
There were details of them legally being able to force their way into your house to fit smart meters.
As well as being able penalise you if your house doesn’t meet new thermal properties.
They'd have written back correctly explaining to you that imagery of a building doesn't fall within the criteria of personal or private data and therefore doesn't fall within RIPA legislation so doesn't need a RIPA authority.
Likewise the numerous cannabis grows identified by Police helicopter crews don't fall within the RIPA (Regulatory Investigative Powers Act) legislation.

No never heard of that maybe new build houses Or home is not insulated only just put double glassed windows in for he first time in its history Mind you the walls are very thick stone its a Welsh Farm House. Insulation will come sometime later on, it is on our mind. So far as a smart meter, our original meter froze and stopped working, worried that they might think something wrong the wanted to put in a smart mere but we refused it. they put something in that did not work either then they brought in an older meter from another property not smart. It would not work here anyway very poor intermittent mobile signal. Evidently a high proportion of smart meter just do not work anyway. Same reason why I bought a T6 and nota T6.1 because of the invasion of privacy by the 6.1 telematics, someone somewhere potentially knows your every move location and so on. Easily defeated but it was unknown at that moment time what to do with it. Preferable to buy something else.

Not in England they can't but the Flying Scotsman is North of the border and the legal position may differ there.
They cannot lawfully force a smart meter upon you in England and Wales. A prepayment meter in very limited circumstances, but not a smart meter. Been there at our last permanent house and it ended up going to law, and a big legal middle finger from my solicitor knocked that straight on the head. It's actually an act of fraud if they misrepresent the legislation in an attempt to deceive a customer into accepting one.
Fortunately OFGEM then upheld my complaint and ordered the company to refund the legal fees I'd accrued.
The article is in fact slightly wrong. OFGEM advised me that if the old meter is knackered and no direct replacements are available they still can't force a smart meter upon you (although theyll use that excuse to try), but will fit a smart meter in "dumb" mode so it can't communicate or be externally controlled.

I have been a small number of times and have no desire to return just too busy and built up. I did get married there though on a Special Licence at quite a famous place a loooong time ago
There is an irony to this tale. The new Sasqustch Towers is a new build and already had a smart electric meter. A bit of a bummer, but Mrs Sasquatch has eleftric cars and were on an EV tariff and and all that entails. A bit deflating after all I went through on mere principle at the old place, but there you go.
And here's the irony. It's still got a dumb gas meter, despite the rollout starting in 2022 and the house being completed this year. When I enquired online (out of mere curiosity) for some reason I can't have one even I wanted.

Gas meters used to be changed every 20 years for safety reasons. Steel box in a damp cellar carrying something highly explosive. Not sure about these new fangled ones!
I think there are some positives of smart meters (when they work) - dont have to pay people to read the meter (could be a -ve too). Many meters are inside a property so dont need to gain entry (occasionally warrants were required!). No estimated bills which was a major customer annoyance. Some people will monitor usage to save the planet and their wallet or spot they’ve left the iron on!
I think it was poorly executed in the early years as different suppliers used different communication protocols so switching suppliers often meant two new meters. I think this has been fixed now and they are generic.
Finally, one thing I’ve not seen much of is charging varying hourly rates, particularly for gas. Off peak electric rates continue like the old economy seven. It is feasible to charge higher rates at peak times for both fuels.
Most things connected to the internet are harvesting data - alexa, door bells, security systems etc

They keep telling us our meter will probably stop working later this month, when they turn off the transmitter Signal, they keep making appointments to change it, I’ve fitted a nice Chubb lock to our meter cupboard door, let’s just wait and see if it stops working and we are left in the dark, I very much doubt it.

Look if they get their own way the easiest way of denial is to build a faradic cage round it a steel box in other words. It will block the signal completely both ways. Can always take it off again or open its door. Depending on where it is could use silver foil baking foil that sort of thing.
Or, be like us and have the smart meter fitted on a wall, on the other side of which sits a huge American fridge freezer that's clad in stainless steel!
