Hi everyone just joined as i have just purchased a T6 2016 plate.
I have a question, i spoke to VW and asked about the cam belt renew, they told me it needs replacing either at 120k miles or 4 years.
It had a service at 74k it now has 77k should i renew the cambelt yet.

quick question on Timing belt and water pump change. I have a 102 T28 T6 (camper conversion). It has done 11,500 miles and as my mileage is so low VW have put me onto the two year servicing schedule. My van is 4 years old in July 2021 and not due service until July 2022, should I get the timing belt and water pump changed this year or just wait until the next service in 2022 (5 year point)

cheers

This will probably make good reading to you...

Ah, opinions vary!!
The only advice I would give is follow the VW schedule you got with the van, that way if it goes wrong it can't be your fault and you might get some sympathy.
However, my van had very low mileage at 4 years so I waited until 5 years, my van, my gamble! If it had gone horribly wrong I'd have shut up and put up.
In EU countries the recommendation is 5 years, for reasons nobody ever explained, in the UK that's reduced to 4 years!
I'm confident that there's a good and genuine reason for the different cambelt change interval in the UK that don't involve the dealers fleecing us, and I'm sure VW would never try to cheat on emissions tests.

@tcummins857 Our T6 102 T28 campervan was 4 on 1st March, and has only done 14,000 miles, so know how you feel!

I am old-school, so always get it serviced annually (it did 1200 miles in the last year!).

I found a really good independent local garage (recommended on here) run by a couple of VW trained guys, who did the cam belt, water pump and aux belt with genuine parts for £420 - the dealer wanted more than twice that - and they can even log records on the VW maintenance database of the work they do too. Did it for peace of mind as it is a keeper.

100% get it done at four years.

Care to share where you go? Or, DM me if you’d prefer

On the schedule I asked several dealers and independents in Germany and Switzerland, every one gave a figure of 10 years/ 220,000kms

Hi @JOG. I use Vantech VW at Uckfield. Van specialists, they are friendly and very knowledgeable. Thoroughly recommend, and won’t be going anywhere else now.

Thanks @Noddy996 I'm only down the road from you so will be checking them out for my cam-belt change / water pump. Thank You.

Thanks for that - recommendations on the forum carry more weight with me. Unfortunately they are about two hours from me. Even more unfortunately is that they are in direction of mother-in-law...!!!!

For the length of time you'll own the van, a 4 year gap instead of 5 would only mean 1 extra change at most, and perhaps no extras. So why wait?

Just in having my van serviced for 55000 km.
Asked vw technician what interval for timing belt and water pump change.
7 years or 105000km whichever comes first.
I wonder why the official replacement interval is different in Australia to the UK.
We have some harsh driving conditions too.
Bit strange if you ask me.

We are strange mate, generally worriers, will buy insurance for anything and believe most of the bollox that VW UK spout.

Mainland Europe is 10years/220000kms strange UK has such a small time limit
