Hi All,

Dreaded egr fault and insufficient flow. I want to replace and not delete as the plan will be to sell in the coming months and grab an older t5.1.

I want to buy an aftermarket EGR and been told the pierberg is the way to go but unfortunately every website states it is not compatible with my model. Does anyone have any tips on what best aftermarket unit to go for for my particular model?

Unfortunately VW will only sell the whole shabang at 1500 and I think that is excessive.

Thanks in advance

What’s the engine model?
What’s the whole shabang?

Interesting that the Pierburg item is listed as not compatible, as they're one of the OE suppliers of EGRs to VW.

Id let a garage do the deed. itll cost a bit more than DIYing it, but still a lot less expensive than the VW one, and sourcing the correct item becomes their problem.

Yeah my garage is on it to be fair. I might need to hand it back to them

I was busy pricing up EGR valves. To be honest, the motor factors were selling 'complete' EGR and coolers (many advertise just the valve minus cooler) for not much different to VW in Dumfries. £700 which includes the gaskets and Bolts for the pipes.
The one supplied by VW was a Pierburg. The one that came off was a Pierburg.

I tried to convince my mate that was doing the work that I just wanted an EGR swap, but he was determined to check for other causes first.

He even texted his mate who is a VW Commercial technician with the fault abd videos of his diagnostic machine. The reply came back almost instantly "just change the egr/cooler. It will be blocked".

So did it today. Took the old one apart amd each hole was pretty chocker with carbon.

New one fitted. No EML. Drives really nice. I keep doing OBDeleven checks just to see it NOT come up with the fault code (insufficient gas).

Wish I had done it sooner. Only done it now in time to sell the van!
