Sold van with faulty EGR… what would you do!?

They have argued that they have a timestamped and dated diagnostic which shows no fault codes from the morning of the sale.
And if my Aunt had balls she'd be my Uncle!

In any case, that's irrelevant. Its faulty now, and after this amount of time the law presumes that fault to be developing or present at the point of sale.

Not that I expected any problems (there were none) but I paid the deposit for my van on my credit card, which meant they're liable for the whole sum in the event of problems so I wouldn't have to put up with bellendery myself.

Make up some posters, park it blocking his entrance and phone the local media to come and interview you. Clearly dickheadery is the only language he understands, so start speaking his language.

Bellendery indeed. Local VW Dealership have agreed to have a look tomorrow to see if they can find any digital evidence in the deeper vehicle systems that the fault predates the sale and was simply erased. Might also go down the route of expert witness and EGR valve inspection. The lawyers reckon this will add misrepresentation to the song list.

Any advice for other ways of showing that the faults predate the sale?

Update on this - the local dealership were kind enough to fit me in and do a diagnostic printout, a little statement, and a quote for the necessary repairs. Unfortunately their techs are booked up into September though! Vehicle in limp mode on way there according to the tech (flashing glow plug light, reduced power).

Now I want to pay an independent mech who knows these engines well to produce a short impartial report about the three separate diagnostic printouts from three separate garages (which all show the same thing), summarising why a forced DPF regen or EGR flush will not repair blocked EGR valves and faulty oil pressure switch solenoids.

It might also help to factually explain how fault lights work… I do not think the brain turns lights on the moment a vehicle develops a (non critical) problem - don’t they stew on it for a while?

As I am pretty rural and new to this stuff, I thought it might be worth asking you guys for any suggestions of a UK business I might approach to ask for this?
