Awesome 3-in-1 Battery Bank - How I done It -

@Dellmassive. Without me adding all the items up can you remember what your box cost in comparison please. Interesting to see any price differences although I guess your box has loads of extra monitoring equipment ?

@Dellmassive @Blitz Thanks for your response, no chance I’d be able to build my own, that’s pretty impressive.

I’ve gone with the 500W Poweroak and Dometic fridge, initially I’m impressed although I still can’t quite understand what extra you get for your money with Dometic compared with other compressor/ cooler solutions at half the price. This said it lasted about 40 hours before cutting off.

Long term I would like to get the leisure battery installed, however I haven’t managed to find anyone who can do it this side of Christmas, any recommendations on here would be good? I’m on the South Coast near Brighton. Thanks again
Fitting a leisure battery is actually quite easy, just takes time running the cables. You can get a complete kit with cables to make life easier. I managed without any problems so cant be too hard

Also consider adding solar to your power oak? Or connecting the EHU and charging it whilst powering the fridge. It depends on how you camp and use the van ?

I’m going to buy a fold out solar solution, up to 200w.
The goal with the van is to be able to be off grid, but the portable fridge is pretty much the only drain on energy.

thats kinda subjective, as you say I've added loads of monitoring . . .

so really it can be as simple as,

Battery,
Box,
Fuse,
connector,

then start building in the bits you want.

@VanDamMan has just bought a made up box similar to the Bison Box . . .

where you just add in a battery to get started . . . . .

heres a couple of examples . . .

@Dellmassive. What's the best way to charge the Allpowers when it's in the van. Ie charging from the leisure battery or van 12v power from the alternator when driving. Also not when on EHU, Solar would be charging my main leisure battery when on site so how would I charge to Allpowers at the same time, assuming there is enough sun for both.
Hope that makes sense.

@Blitz

I've found the 12v plug in USB Type-C PD the best way to charge from a 12v system>> (plus a 100w USB cable)

whether you plug it into the vans socket and charge from alternator . . .

or plug in into your 12v leisure battery side it dont matter it works either way.

so:

alternator > 12v dash socket > ALLPOWERS

or

solar/DC-DC/EHU > leisure battery > 12v dash socket > ALLPOWERS

a nice simple solution that works anywhere.

you can of course use solar direct into the side - 50W so its slower.

or

you can use the 12v to DC5525 input on the side, but again its 50W max, so slower.

this is it in action at T6F summer camp . . . . .

the important things are.

the USB charger needs to be Type-C PD can capable of 60W+ (some are only 18w or 45w = slow charge)

the USB lead also needs to be USB-C PD spec capable of 60W + (normally rated at 100W)

also a FYI, when its chargeing at 60W the charger plug will get warm, so if its leisure then the socket + feed cable needs to be up to scratch.

check this out . . .

on a 45W version i had before the 60W version . .

i charges as fast as the fast 60w wall charger

watch this space.

the ALLPOWERS measures . .

so I've gone for one of each of these . . . ( i have 2x ALLPOWERS )

ill test them and see whats best . . .

Do any of these allpowers units charge from a 12v accessory socket so you can top them up on the move?

Do any of these allpowers units charge from a 12v accessory socket so you can top them up on the move?
Yes, I've shown that cable above.

But its not the fastest or most efficient charge method.

You did indeed, sorry, I missed that

Do you know what current/power the accessory socket is limited to? I only have one in my (comfort) dash, feels like it charges my phone slow but then seemed to charge the Noco more quickly than I expected. I'm assuming it's not a smart socket in any way so must be current limited and my USB adaptor, despite it being a Belkin branded 2.1A one, isn't very good

Another linked question, when driving, is there any risk of taking current out of the van via the accessory socket more quickly than the van tops it up? Presumably the socket is supplied by the battery as it's always on and the van has a smart alternator, but can the alternator then dump a load of charge into the battery as appropriate to keep the battery happy?

12v sockets are around 10A or 150w max.

And fused at 15A.

They direct from battery so could run a battery flat if the engine wasn't started before the battery dropped too low.

Hold on old boy, I asked this question last week and never got a reply
Apart from 12v socket how else could you quick charge in the van, old chap.
