Anyone have a van converted by Aurora camper conversions who were based in Nottingham?

Depends how heavy the conversion is and how the new owner is going to use it.

My T28 weighs 2.26t with full tanks of fuel, water and gas. We travel light so it doesn’t worry me.
Especially as plating up from a T28 to a T30 seems to be just a paper shuffling exercise (as far as I’ve heard).
Our T28 was 2440kg with some of our camping gear, there is no doubt fully loaded it would have been 'over the limit', the up-plating took it up to a T31. £276 to do that.

I’ve wondered about the up-plating exercise meself. I don’t know if the stock springs on a t28 & a t30 are the same or if when they up-plate a t28 to t30, the t28 springs are being rated to the max.

Certainly worth an email to SvTech or van weight engineering. They won't charge you for advice... probably!

Mine is 228x (I forget the exact number, but 2288 seems familiar) with a near full tank of diesel, full water tank, and big Swamper wheels. Im a big fat lad but theres no way me, the missus, and a weeks worth of chocolate digestives will get close to 512kg, so it's perfect.

However, a family of four that carries a dozen large sacks of flour to make their own bread would do well to be on the phone to SV Tech.

Thanks all for you help and advice. What’s the thoughts on buying this type of van that’s been mainly converted privately as like a self build project as to buying from a professional converting company?

I assume warranty etc would be a bonus through the conversion company, but this van will come with a years warranty on everything including the conversion and also its having its habitation check today.

Just in 2 minds as to whether this van is the one or to find another that’s been converted by a professional company previously. The fact that this particular van that was advertised on her has had the pop top, bed and windows don’t by a professional gives me some piece of mind!

Thanks all

Be sure that any seating modifications (with belts for travelling) are certified.
Try getting quotes for insurance before buying, some insurers won’t want to insure an owner converted van, they prefer a recognised professional conversion.
Warranty is only as good as the small print and the willingness of the company to honour it, watch out for all of the exclusions.

Good morning, brand new to camper vans and this forum, so I apologise if this is not in the correct category or chat!

Just in the final process of buying our first van, a 21 plate t6.1 in grey, which according to the previous owner was converted professionally by Aurora camper conversions who were based in the Nottingham area.

The van looks extremely well converted and it does very much appear to have been professionally done, and quite clearly the previous owner spent a lot of money converting it. However I am just wondering if anyone else on here has any experience with the company as I can’t seem to find much online due to them no longer operating.

Any advice would be much appreciated, so thank you in advance!

Looking forward to getting the van and getting out there and learning how it all works!

I have just bought a VW Highline T30 (T6.1) 2020 model original converted from new by Status 1 and it’s the Aurora Exclusive Edition model. I had the full operating manual from Status 1 with it and they have their own branded carpets in it. Very high spec. Unfortunately I am trying to get hold of them for the full specification as I want to alter the sports suspension set up but they haven’t replied. Bought mine just over a week ago.

This is my Status 1 Aurora Exclusive Edition. They usually have bespoke 20” Fondmetal Alloy wheels so check those and a California style table in the door. Mine has a build number so give them your reg and they will be able to check for you ( if they reply that is!) Here’s their website Used Vehicles in Batley, West Yorkshire | Status 1 Automotive ltd

If they reply
Indeed. I was interested in buying one of their vans off a private seller. The seller knew jack about the van they'd bought, so I emailed Status 1 asking for a few details. Response... nada. That level of communication and support (not just for me, but for the original purchaser) never bodes well, so I swerved the van.

I’ve just had a reply from Status 1. I went into their sales chat and it takes you through WhatsApp . The guy was useless. He said they don’t keep records accept for very recent vehicles. I asked him if he could give me any information on the suspension set up or manufacturer they use on their vehicles or when mine was made and he said they are all different and couldn’t tell unless they have photos of the vehicle on ramps. I said presumably any suspension specialist could tell when actually on ramps! The level of service and incompetence is beyond! They should have a 0 rating just for not keeping records! I would have thought they would need to keep details of all sales for 6 years for tax purposes and my van is barely 5.

It matters to you but for them your van is history, I can sort of see their perspective, they could easily spend hours / week sorting out queries from second, third or more owners not knowing if any modifications have been done since they sold it.

I get that but all I want it the original set up used / manufacturer of the suspension. They are bound to have an idea. Why would they provide a build number. It’s poor from a business point of view especially with camper vans and clubs. I’ve had 2 people ask me where I got the van from within the 2 weeks I’ve had it as they were interested in getting a new conversion. I wouldn’t recommend them now. They’d get a following if they just took some care to respond. May be they have just moved on the prestige performance cars. What if I was the person who actually bought the vehicle off them and asked and was a potential repeat customer. If I was buying a new one to replace mine I’d go elsewhere just because of their attitude.

I purchased a Status 1 Aurora Exclusive conversion back in June, from another camper converter that took it in PX, they had no info at all on conversion, managed to speak to a guy Status 1 who said they don't do conversions anymore as got too complicated, whatever that means? And they don't keep records of conversion specs etc and are constantly bombarded by people asking :( He did however manage to tell me when I e-mailed a photo that the Pop Top was a UK POPTOPS Super Slimline roof, (I am still trying to find some who can replace the canvas for me though)
In other news, last week discovered water collected in tailgate, found cause to be rear window was very badly fitted, not been primed before fitting and was barley holding in place!
Fixed now thanks to the very helpful Gav at West Midlands Campervan Conversions

That said we still totally love our van and do not regret purchase, yet, despite several teething problems, don't think you are even going to get perfection buying pre-loved ;0)

Hi, thanks for the info. I am very happy with mine aside from the ride and even then that is down to personal preference, it just annoying that they can’t even provide information about the spec / suspension to adjust. None of the Bristol based companies seem interested either unless you want a full replacement. Just want to get it sorted. I am quite attached to the van now! 😃 Happy camping…

If you post some photos on the Forum I’m sure there will be help on adjustment if at all possible, wheels, tyres and suspension.
