Alarm going off - Side door issue

I have got a problem with my T6 where the side door doesn't always lock, the MFD flickers to tell me the door is open whilst driving and the alarm has gone off a few times.

Seems like it might all be related to the sensor that says wehter the door is open or closed...

Any thoughts as to what I can check to hopefully fix it?

Sounds like the locking mechanism is faulty, it's a fairly common fault and is often only intermittent. Is your van still under warranty? If so VW should replace it. Have you got Carista or VCDS to give you a fault code, that way we can confirm if that is definitely the problem.

The door open/close signal varies by model
If you have a highline (factory fitted alarm) then the signal is generated by the central locking motor inside the door, this signal is passed through the contacts on the leading edge of the door into the contacts on the B pillar then forwards to the dash
If you have a trendline or startline (no factory fitted alarm) then the signal is generated by a conventional door pin switch triggered by the trailing edge of the door against the C pillar

The most common fault would be either the contacts on the front edge are dirty and need cleaning or the pin switch at the rear is not contacting with the door enough to get a positive signal and may need adjusting

It is a Highline Kombi. I will have another look at the contacts thanks

The contacts look pretty clean. The immobiliser stuff is Ghost and I have changed the head unit...

Sounds like the locking mechanism is faulty, it's a fairly common fault and is often only intermittent. Is your van still under warranty? If so VW should replace it. Have you got Carista or VCDS to give you a fault code, that way we can confirm if that is definitely the problem.

@ChrisR any chance you could look at the VCDS please?

Sounds like the microswitch in the latch is intermittent, you could try some cleaner sprayed into the catch.
otherwise you need to get the lock out.
VW Assist wouldn’t be able to anything apart from prioritise a booking at the dealer.
if its still under warranty just push for the dealer to replace the lock.

To verify the cause of the alarm you could withdraw alarm log - found in BCM (09 - Central elect.) measurement blocks 020 - 023 (under Advanced Meas. Values). At its best even the time stamps would match. However, in the fault log (Auto-Scan) only the first incidence is recorded.

Alarm source decodes on the rightmost column. The date decoding is a bit strange).

The alarms above were triggered by unlocking a door using "mechanical" key - just for testing.

Interestingly I have got exactly the same fault of "Response Closing Status of Rear Left Door" quite a few times and actually from both left and right rear doors but alarm has never gone off. Certainly could be that the alarm was not armed at the time.

I will try and take another scan later. In the mean time is there a way to lock the van without setting the alarm?

We had a similar issue a while back. Tracked it down to this not connecting properly. The alarm would sound when going round corners. The internal bit had cracked which prevented it from floating in its housing.
