Air freshners

In the good old days I used to have vanilla magic trees at £1 a go .
They'd live in the boot of the car for the first week so they'd chill out abit before bringing them inside to fragrance my interior .
I remember they were way too potent otherwise, but recently everything I buy either smells of nothing or is gone after the first week .
Whats happening? Is everything just pants these days or is it just my sense of smell that's given up ?
What are you guys using?

They don't seem to be as good anymore as back in the day and also the interior size is alot bigger. Use to love poppy coral with the nice fresh lemon smell, but anything thats lemon today just smells like a toilet freshener. I've just been buying jelly beans. Cheapest place is at Tesco and after a couple of weeks, I just moved them to the backend of the bus and buy a new set. When my lad gave the bus a deep clean he removed 43 of them

I bought a French version of the California scents can type thing 2 weeks ago , red berries it says on it ....doesnt smell of anything unless I put my nose in the can !

Something to do with surfboards I think. Never surfed in my life but their air fresheners are decent

However.

I've since moved over to a cheaper option.

These sprays last for ever.

One or two quick sprays on the soft furnishings will see your right. (Seats. Carpet, roof lining etc)

I find most air fresheners are worse than any smell that one may wants to hide. So do not use them. Though occasionally the do turn up in the house nothing to do with me. Some seem to think that an extended spray is necessary which then results in the whole house stinking in no time at all with something that is very offensive.

Couple of thoughts…

You get used to a small with regular or prolonged exposure and it’s as if it’s not there, whereas a passenger new to your car might smell the air freshener instantly.

Second, I wonder if freshness (age of the product) is an issue. I think air fresheners may be less popular than before, or people buy sprays instead of the dangling ones, so perhaps they sit in a warm Halfords off gassing into the bag and are therefore strong on opening and die off quicker. When cost of living goes up surely sales of stuff like that drops off?

I’ve got a cheap portable oil mister type freshener (Amazon job). Doesn’t need to go on much as it’s quite strong and can use bug repellent oil for camping, bonus!

I’ve used one of those freshener bombs that empty the whole can with the ac on full blast. I wouldn’t recommend those for a campervan as they are very strong and last quite a while, not great to sleep in.

Failing all that the little tree black ice is decent.

Jumping in on this older post because I’ve been hunting for something that isn’t overpowering too. I’ve had decent luck with the California Scents tubs if I crack them open just a tiny bit and tuck them under a seat. They last ages and don’t blast your nose. Anyone tried the refillable vent clip options lately? I’m curious if any of those have a stronger but still steady scent.

Get you lot with your posh fragrances. Air fresheners are for wimps. What’s wrong a blast of last night’s curry, and a hint of 3 day worn t shirt with a dab of WD40?….and that’s just Mrs Spuds.
