Air freshners

Back to being serious, most of the funky smells in the cab come from the aircon. I use one of the aerosol aircon cleaners a couple of times a year. Pick them up in EuroCarParts for under a fiver. Personally I hate air fresheners either in the van or house, it’s just replacing a set of naturally occurring chemicals with a load of artificial cr4p. But that’s just my opinion. I’m the guy who’s stomach heaves at “new car” smell.

I change the cabin filter annually, as you should, and always buy the Mahle anti-fungal version. The cheap ones the garages put in are next to useless at filtering (which is why studies show there is a lot of air pollution inside your car as you sit in traffic) and do go mouldy over time which is what creates that smell when you turn the air con on.

Mahle performed best in a couple of tests I’ve seen. Usually around the £20 mark - cheaper to buy from Germany this year for some reason.

I’ve had the same issue, where most fresheners either blast your nose off or vanish in a day. I ended up trying some of the more unusual scent stuff from nothingbutscents.com, and a couple of their Gothic-style fragrances hit a nicer middle ground for strength. I just hang them for a few hours, then tuck them in the door pocket so the smell isn’t too in-your-face.

I have bought Mahle filters in the past but don't know specifically if they were anti fungal 🤔 I shall have to look into it .
For some reason this year I bought a bosch one instead ( always activated carbon, not just the paper ones)
I'd forgotten about the 'bombs' we used to use at the indy years back (set a/c on, set bomb off in footwell, shut door and leave for a while type things) ...Will look to see if I can find some
