Advice on purchase of VW Kombi T5.1

Folk’s,

Respect. I thought I was buying a T5.1, as that’s what I was told. But just received the log book and populated chat GPT, with some of the reference number, and the information it threw back strongly suggest / confirms early T6 with a Euro 5 engine. As you have said.

I’m clearly in the right company for advice.

Thank you 👍

I owned an early T6 euro 5 from new had it near on 9 years we sold at just above 100,000 miles never let us down cracking engines. Genuinely happy for you and new adventures to come👍

ChatGPT?

OK for basic initial research but not something I would ever rely on.
They (AI) all make mistakes. Shocking thing is they also lie to cover it up. There are a lot of articles on this.

I’m excited for ‘new’ van day though!

I have a t5.1 (and think yours is a t6 but without all the adblue guff) so it looks like you’ve got a good ‘un there.
Mine is the 102hp and that’s plenty good enough power wise. They’re geared to carry weight and diesels like to be worked so for me the lower power engines sans adblue are great.

One thing to bear in mind is- when you do fit the bed you’ll need to inform your insurance.

Stand by !
So collected and still really happy with it, but I have got something to think about already.

Basically, went out for the test drive on Thursday and the low tyre pressure light came on. And I didn't give it much thought.

My cousin did mention it comes on but he resets it showing me the button in the glove compartment.

However I did about 80 miles in it today, sure enough the tyre pressure warning light came on, but more concerningly it was followed by the ABS and ESP warning light. Which was a bit disappointing…. Thinking pound signs 😢

I put air in all tyres, then tried to reset the warning light, but it’s having none of it. It started flashing (suggesting a system fault) then stayed illuminated.

I’ve just gone out to take a few photos and checked the warning lights, ABS and tyre pressure still illuminated but ESP has gone out.

I’ve done a bit of research and hoping it’s a faulty tyre pressure sensor or something. And not something too heavy. ( famous last words)

But I’m realistic the van is 10 years old next year. It’s expected to have some issues along the way.

Apart from that, as I was already aware there is a small rip on the drivers seat otherwise. I think the van is fantastic, I’m looking forward to personalising it a bit, roof bars, the bars on the bottom probably in black, tint wrap the rear windows, and put a bed in the back. With regard to the latter I’ve had some good advice from a person on this forum who ended up getting one made.

So all relatively good, just a bit of the unknown. But it’s not dampened the spirits 😂

Thanks for asking I hope you haven’t lost the will to live after reading this 😂

Get it scanned, that error is highly likely to be a wheel speed sensor, if you use something decent like VCDS it'll tell you which wheel needs it replacing

Nah , it's a banger and I'll give you a fiver (as a favour) and take it off your hands if you want ? 😜.
😂🤣 Honestly I love it, I could happily go out and sit in it now, but the Mrs won’t be too impressed. It just opens slot of doors for me, just getting out door activity kit in it. Just brill. 👌
