Hi, I hope some can help me identify a problem with my van that occurred yesterday. We set off for a 4-day break yesterday with the caravan in Wales and whilst traveling along the A55 and we had to make an emergency stop, the van appeared to lose power whilst going uphill at the same time massive amounts of white smoke coming from the exhaust and the van’s revs just went went out of control.
When AA showed up then said that the turbo had gone, he didn’t carry out any investigation just made the diagnoses on my evidence.
He did go on the say because it was diesel and had a DSG gearbox under no circumstances must it be towed and I MUST not attempt to restart the engine.
Thank you

The symptoms you describe could be due to a failed turbo. I certainly wouldn't try to start the engine until someone competent had a good look at it.

Sounds like turbo failure to me.

The van could be towed but only with the front lifted.

Unless it's 4motion, then a flatbed truck is needed.

What's the van spec?.

Got any pics?

Thank you for the reply

The second AA chap that turned up dragged the van backward onto a flatbed?
