Adrian Flux trackers

My van with AV (with a separate s5 tracker system), nippers Fart 500 and commuting bike are all with Mr Flux and I must be lucky, they have really looked after me on those 3. The wife's Evoque though different story, massive policy quote on that. Having claimed through Flux a few years ago when my bike was stolen from under me, they were so good, I kind of feel I should support them now. I hasten to add I am in no way in their employ!
Speak as you find, they must do quite a bit well but I’m not impressed, also the idea of the tracker going faulty without being aware and then no cover is a big worry.

Surely if the tracker they supply goes faulty then that isn't your fault .
I'm with AF , nobody gave me a tracker .

This happened to me, I was in my second year of insurance and the nano tracker was 18 months old when I got a letter from the tracker company saying it had stopped responding and I needed to reset it. This involved turning a dip switch off/on through a tiny slot in the side, in my career I'm used to that type of thing but I couldn't see said switch. It looked very much like the battery had swollen up and pushed the internal circuit board out of the way of the slot, I tried to explain this to Tracker, and with photos but they weren't having any of it saying I needed to buy a new one, return the old one and if proven faulty I would get a refund ( I knew how that was going to end before I even started!) Then they hit me with the line - by the way your van is not covered for theft until this is sorted out - well I blew a gasket with them and Adrian Flux that because of a third party piece of equipment that I have no control over that I didn't even want my £50k van was uninsured and that was not acceptable. In the end I had to buy a new tracker, returned old one and surprise surprise they found nothing wrong with it despite telling me it was faulty in the first place. After numerous calls and more hours on the phone I'll give AF their due, they did refund me the cost of the tracker along with a small amount of cash compensation and unofficially said that they have cover in place for situations like this had the worst happened - although I wouldn't have wanted to test that one out!! Upon renewal this year I have gone elsewhere.

Has anyone seen this sneaky line in the policy summary when going through the AF quote?

  • We shall not pay for loss or damage to your vehicle or its contents caused by theft, or attempted theft, unless a Thatcham-approved Category 2 Immobiliser is installed in your vehicle and is in operation whenever your vehicle is left unattended. You must provide us with a copy of the fitment certificate, and the device must be kept in good working order.
I put down that it only has a factory alarm, then it pre-populates the tracker they want you to install. But then they sneak this one in. I'll give them a call, but it seems a bit shady to me.

Yes, I've seen that. Every new car and van sold in the UK since 1st January 1998 has a T2 standard immobiliser from the factory, and manufacturers don't dish out certificates with new cars. The Thatcham websitte confirms it - I pointed this out to them and they were fine, the wording is very old dates back to the mid nineties when Thatcham approvals were a new thing and only available on the aftermarket.
