Ablemail AMT12 installation

It's because the AMT12-2 has a LB cut off of 13.0v in the default setting, so when the LB starts getting low it'll stop using it to charge the SB.

However, as soon as there's any solar, that increases the voltage and it starts charging again.

On the other settings (the lithium settings) it only charges when the LB is over 13.5v so only when it's being charged by solar and never just using the LB.

This means the AMT will sacrifice LB power to save the SB if it is getting critically low. Mine was working exactly like this when my old SB was on its way out.

Ah, ok - mines never gotten to that point, but good to know it'll do that!

This is good to know. I have no solar so was planning on getting an Ablemail to keep the SB topped up when camping off grid for a couple of days, which isn't often.
 
Slight thread revival, but I have bought an AMT-12 to try and stop the start battery drain in my T6.1. I have a 250w solar panel with Victron controller, Sterling Power BB1230 charger, and a Renogy lithium leisure battery.

The solar controller and leisure battery are under the driver's seat (as well as a Victron battery shunt), and the BB1230 charger is behind the driver seat next to a fuse panel.
I'm just trying to get my head around how I will install the AMT-12, and I think 2mm² cable should suffice as the cable runs shouldn't be that long.

Does anyone have any wisdom to impart around this task? Cheers.

The required cable spec should be in the installation instructions so check, but I imagine 2mm2 should be fine given the low current. In terms of location, can it go right by the B2B - that’s certainly convenient in the sense that all the right connections are present…

I should fit under the seat as its tiny. but if not, next to the charger will be fine, albeit slightly less tidy, its it more the cabling. Which cable goes where, the included instructions are minimal at best. I understand the way to program it...once I have it installed that is.

What wire goes where is labelled on the unit itself.

And, for anyone with a recently purchased AMT12-2, I have a surplus ABB07 BT adaptor that will work on a newer AMT12-2, the older ones need updating by Jonathan at Ablemail for them to work.

So, what additional functionality does your BT built in one have over a non BT with the adaptor?

I found it useful to reduce the voltage required to keep the Ablemail feeding the SB last week (LB less than 13v), temperatures were too low to charge the Roamer via driving or the charger. I also had a strange one where the Victron XS50 was reporting a low voltage reading with the recent sub zero temps (apparently a common XS issue). The override feature is useful, purely to throw charge into the SB if required. Both the van and I don't like sub zero temps.

Apologies, I didn't read the question properly Sir! I believe the ABB07 will do all that the AMT12-2B will do when plugged in to a newer or updated AMT12-2. I've never used it though, I didn't want to lose my AMT for a week while it was updated, it wouldn't play nicely with my 2 year old AMT.

Out of interest, how long are you away for before your starter battery gets too low?
