Hi, I have solar and have changed from a LB to a non-permanent power station. Also now running some lights and other things from the vehicle battery when the power station or hook-up are not connected - I have a changeover relay to switch to the power station/hook-up when they are connected. The power from the vehicle battery is through a Victron battery saver, so won't drain the VB too far (not tested yet!) I do not use the solar to charge the power station as the output is not that great and I have a high output charger connected to the VB to take alternator power when I need to - manual isolator fitted as it won't be needed all the time.
My query/quandary is about using the solar to keep the vehicle battery charged. I get that the T6 smart alternator system doesn't charge the VB fully, but my solar will try to if connected directly. I have an Ablemail trickle charger, would it be best if I connect the output from the MPPT controller to the input of the Ablemail and the output of the Ablemail to the VB, rather than MPPT to VB?
