Before a make an expensive mistake, does anyone know if I cut the 2 pin shaver style plug off my Philips toothbrush charger, if I can wire it back up to a normal UK 3 pin using the 2 wires?
I've come away with the chargers, but not my adapter, and all our brushes are flat now.

The 2 pin is a sealed plug, so cutting it off will render it useless if this isn't possible.

Oh and I did use the 'search box' but it's not a subject that's been covered

The toothbrush charger will be double insulated, so it won't have an earth lead. If you cut it off then it will wire to a 3 pin plug with the live and neutral wires. However I would just go with @Peatey 's suggestion.

Thanks for the helpful suggestions chaps

There are certain sayings about once you try certain things, theres no going back. An electric toothbrush is one of those.

Yes done it in the past assuming it’s a Sonicare. You can also get USB chargers for the Sonicare, we use one in the van for charging the toothbrush.
Electric Toothbrushes for Philips Sonicare Travel Charger Base AC Power HX3110 /HX3120/HX3130/HX8255/HX9112/HX9140 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B074JZC3M5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_7nyVCbG38SEMJ

it's actually a very good topic:

i have an Braun ORAL B 9000 (bluetooth lol)
i tried a USB charger off Amazon, and wasted about £7 i believe
so far can only recharge it from 240v (home, shorepower, or inverter and it takes HOURS/overnight to fully recharge, so not happening + it blinks bright blue while charging (no kidding, try to sleep with that!))
Braun even sell a new travel case with their newer toothbrushes (lithium batteries now rather than NiMH, not sure i want that in a toothbrush), and in an effort to confuse buyers, the case has USB, but it's a passthrough to recharge your phone from the wall adapter to the case (really!) can't even put this case in the dishwasher anymore

the battery of my current one only last about 4 days, so as a backup i have one of their almost disposable electric toothbrush, which runs of AA (can be swapped not easily though) and can't use the head i like on it

same thing with their electric shaver, although the battery is great. difficult to recharge.
i found out their less than £20 flip style AA powered travel shaver is pretty good too

on both the expensive toothbrush and shaver, i think the power conversion is done within the plug (always closest to the wall) rather than near the device

Funny it seems i am more satisfied with their cheaper products.

I have the battery operated Oral-B as I have had the Sonicare in the past and they only last 2 years before the charging fails so at £70 that's £35 per year on a toothbrush!

I got a twin pack from Costco last month. They take 2 AA batteries and replaceable brush head.

i guess it's the same as the cheap one i use.
replacing the batteries kind of break at the bottom
only the cheap heads fits, not the brush/floss head for example

The Costco deal was/is the Oral-B Pro-Expert. These use the same interchangeable heads as the more expensive Oral-B rechargeable ones - that was the main reason we did the same as @Loz and took advantage of the Costco deal, i.e. rechargeable batteries failing to hold a charge but still a good stock of replacement heads at home.

Away from home we use Oral-B Pulsar which have most of the advantages of an electric toothbrush but take up no more space than a normal manual toothbrush. They come with a disposable AAA battery already installed but, whilst they can be replaced, find the life of the battery is about the same as the non-replacable head.

I agree with the above comments regarding the battery life, 2 years seems to be about the maximum before they stop charging, plus they seem to take ages to charge.
My wife used to work as a dental nurse, then a practice manager, and they always did, and still do advise the Sonicare range, out of all the electric brushes.

I just wait until John Lewis has an offer on the brushes, and currently use the Diamond clean that you just pop in the glass to recharge it.

Will this mod work on the braun toothbrushes as well?. Come away for a week and forgot me adaptor. doh.

We use the Colgate ProClinical Pocket-Pro USB Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Colgate-ProClinical-Pocket-Pro-Rechargeable-Toothbrush/dp/B01AUQ6JBW (Interesting to note that there is a black version now that is half the price!) There is also a mains chargeable version (cheaper) so we bought one of each. USB charger used in the van, mains charger at home.

Suites our comprehensive USB charging facilities around the campervan (everything we have is USB rechargeable and never need an inverter).
