If the oil leak is minor you'll catch it on your weekly checks.
If its catastrophic a few extra cc's wont make the blandest bit of difference.
All engines use a little, no matter how munuscule, and if left to their own devices will often settle themselves around the halfway mark anyway. Any they've burned off getting there isn't good news for anything downstream in the exhaust, such as cats or DPFs, so even in the best case scenario theres no sound reasoning for automatically brimming it to the top mark.
