2016 T6 102, Stolen / Recovered. Charging Fault [Resolved]

Is that all faults clear now ?
All of them apart from the TPMS fault. The switch inside the glove box appears to be jammed down so I cannot reset it. Might have to order a new switch.

I think its crazy that the 225A alternator fuse could throw up so many other faults, including the Glow plugs etc!?

There's a switch in the glove box?? Never seen this before, I reset tpms via the MFD.

Great news that you have cleared most of those faults with that one fuse

I don’t want to put a downer on it and I can understand that fuse SA8 could be vacant on some vans but what I don’t get is why that 50A fuse is sitting there at all and the fact it is unsecured at one end. It seems weird unless the van has been prepared for something else to go in there.

Unconnected to your issues but you would be surprised what people will nick a car or van for. A friend of mine had the front end of his Ford SMax removed and left on his own drive overnight while he was sleeping 20metres away purely so they could remove the front parking sensors including the loom.

I agree it's odd the fuse is in there. I spoke to my local TPS and they look at specific parts schematics for that vans VIN number and they say there is no cable / wiring listed for fuse SA8.

Since everything seems to now be working as it should, I can only assume it is now correct.

If the van does not have factory trailer towbar electrics (as per scan), nor second battery, nor a front seat electric lumbar support - seems that SA8 has no function.

UPDATE!
The van has been driving perfectly, with no error messages etc until today. Now the engine management light came on again and the scan reveals the Glow plugs on all cylinders have intermittent electrical fault? I have copied the codes and full scan below. (ignore the ABS fault, the new TPMS reset switch is on order)

Anyone have any ideas what could be causing this?

Did you have a look at the glow plug relay / module previously?

You can test for main power feed....

Yes, I removed the relay to check the connections were good and not corroded etc. It all looked to be good.

re glow plugs . . .

the scematic shows the 4x glow plugs connected to the controller - J179

its main power feed is (according to this wire diagrem,). . .

The J179 glow plug controller has.

4x outputs to glow plugs,
glow plugs are grounded via block,
one main power feed via SA6 100A fuse,
2x data line to ECM(engine control module)
main ground via ECM

it also looks like it has a secondary power feed via SB33 (5A)

SO CHECK THE SB33 FUSE TOO . . . .
I'm still having issues with the glow plugs, engine management light is on.

I have just removed the battery again to access the control unit and confirm 100% that SA6 fuse is good, which it is. I have also checked SB33 5A fuse as you suggested which is also good.

It is very difficult to chase the wires to check for good connections as they just disappear in to the depths!

I did discover a loom that seems to go nowhere, it doesn't appear to have been cut as it looks insulated from factory. It's underneath the small fuse box B?

Any other suggestions before I box it back together? I have it in pieces at the moment.

Thanks.

This is the glow plug control unit, how likely could it be that this has failed?

Hi All,

Another update - and maybe someone can shed some light on this?

I couldn't resolve the glow plug fault myself after trying everything I could do, so I booked the van in to VW. It took forever to get an appointment due to covid set backs, but the van is currently there at time of posting this.

After 2 hours of diagnosis today, I got a phone call from the service team saying that the water pump needs replacing and the EGR module needs to be flashed? (guessing re programmed?)

The service department couldn't elaborate any further though, and couldn't tell me how these things were linked to the Glow Plugs on all cylinders showing up as faulty. (as in the ross-tech scan posted above) They have quoted me £549, but again she couldn't tell me if this was going to resolve all the faults?

I'm a little surprised the water pump needs replacing since the van has only covered 20k miles?

Can anyone throw any light on this for me!? I've not given the go-ahead for the work yet since I cannot understand how these things are linked.

Thanks.

Er..... eh?

Not sure 9n that.........

Maybe they have spotted a leak when looking at a glow plug issue?

It makes no sense to me, I'm going to call them first thing in the morning and ask to speak to the technician. I can't see how those things are linked to the fault I have?

Sounds a bit weird, think I would be tempted to go to an Indy and let an actual mechanic look at it
I spoke to a VW independent specialist at length, told him what I had tried, and he said that's all he would be able to do. He recommended going to VW since they are the experts?!

The water pump has a multiplug attached, on these it is electric as well mechanical sometimes fault codes appear when fault detected more advanced now
