Wipers Stop Mid Sweep With Ignition Off?

My van has the auto wipers, one thing that is really annoying me is that if I turn off my ignition and the wipers are mid sweep they immediately stop rather than carry on to their parked position.
Is this normal (its years since I had a car that did this.
Can they be made to carry on with the final sweep until they get to the 'parked' position?
