So I've ordered the Ablemail AMT-12B and would now like to pick up a trickle charger for the LB.

Amazon seem to have the NOCO reduced for black Friday. I hope to upgrade to a 230ah Lithium battery at some point but most of them now seem to work with Lead and lithium. Didn't want to go over the top. Any recommendations?

If you’re intending to go for a 230A LB in the future, I’d recommend something bigger than a “Trickle” charger. Trickle chargers are typically around 2-4A and are used for maintenance charging. If you’re wanting a mains charger to keep up with every day use, you need something in the 15-30A range. If you’re going to be spanking your LB (ooer matron) and running heavy power consumers, inverter/microwave/air fryer etc. you may need something around 50A to quickly replace the used capacity.
Personally I’d only buy Victron (other chargers are available) and they have units that cover all the above.

This will just be to top it up mainly during the winter when the van isn't used much during the week.

Ah, ok. Do you have solar or a mains charger already installed or intending to? How is it currently (see what I did there) charged, just by B2B?

Yeah have Victron b2b for the LB and have a suitcase 220w solar panel for camping. So this would just be to help get keep the LB topped up while it's not being used.
Watt I dont want to do is under spec it but at the same time it needs to be Amp le..... Oh I couldn't help myself

When my roof mounted solar died, I used to set up my portable solar relatively hidden behind the van. If you have space on the drive? Depends on angle of sun as well of course...

10-20% of the battery size is the recommendation.

70Ah AGM starter - 7A-14A charger

230Ah Lithium LB - 23A-46A charger.

so i would go for a charger in the Range of 15A to 30A

Victron & NOCO are great chargers, but Victron is Prefered over NOCO.

as the NOCO chargers can throw a fault when charging leisure batterys that have loads on them.

Hi all,

I’ve a have S5 A13 Bosch AGM Car Battery 12V 95Ah Type 019 AGM S5A13 starter battery fitted in my t6.1. What trickle charger would you recommend?

My idea is to leave it connected underneath the bonnet and install some kind of discreet socket in the front bumper that I can use to plug the van in whilst it’s not in use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Alex

Alex,
Do you have a leisure battery as well? And solar? That would make life easy!

How long do you tend to leave your van undriven?
Can quite often not move for a week or so. there’s a slow drain on the battery that I’ve been unable to get to locate. I come it to it quite often and the battery is giving the very low warning in the instrument cluster

This is what I used to use years ago, I still use it occasionally for other vehicles. I think they are still well regarded..?

If the battery isn’t lasting a week then I’d say the trickle charger is a bit of a sticking-plaster solution and it’s worth trying to fix the actual problem with the parasitic drain so you can leave your van without worrying about plugging it in.

Thank you I’ve purchased one of these https://amzn.eu/d/du9QgcE
