Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

We're still at Valamar Padove Camping on Rab in Croatia and although there seems to be loads of VWs around, there's only one Magirus Deutz as pictured below. It might not be a VW but it's still German and it's also very big and in a strange sort of way quite pretty as well. All that plus it's probably not far off my age meant I thought it deserved a picture.
Just had a chat with the German couple who’s owned it for the last 24 years. Apparently is was made in 1961 and has got a 9.5L engine which probably makes even the worst of our VW fuel consumption figures look very good indeed.

Wow, that’s like a massive VW Beetle campervan. Looks amazing.

Day trip to Slaithwaite near Huddersfield, son has just acquired a house there with his lady and we were drafted in to assist with work needed prior to them moving in shortly. Many carpets have been removed, rooms cleaned, things dismantled and pizzas eaten.

Followed the directions provided by Waze on my phone which worked fine on the way there, but coming home instead of retracing the earlier route back to the closest junction on the M62 it decided to take us across country via very tight turn junctions and single track roads, only finally joining the motorway in the Rochdale area. No idea why it does this, but I frequently find the thing recommending completely different routes between outward and return journeys. Having said that, I can say that the scenery on the return trip would have been amazing if it hadn't been for the torrential rain and low cloud...

Going back again in a few days as they are looking for people who can handle a paintbrush.

I only live 2 miles from Slaithwaite and that trip over towards scammonden res is the quickest way back to the M62 although a little tight.
He’ll love it there, it’s really up and coming with loads of new little coffee shops and bars and of course Rumpus Burger and Anello Pizza.
And the canal that has currently had all the towpaths redone too.
If he has any questions about places to go to buy building materials or where to go out to eat etc then drop me a message.

Departed Abersoch early and in bright sunshine. Lovely quiet drive through Snowdonia via Bala out to Llangollen, Shrewsbury and then home. The Welsh West Coast 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 didn’t disappoint, thoroughly enjoyed clocking up the miles, both on foot exploring and transiting between Sites on the scenic routes. Nearly 700 miles and the Van didn’t miss a beat 👌🏼

“Safe travels all…”🥃

Paid a visit to the end of year motorhome show at Lincoln showground, had a look around all the new conversions.
Never bought a thing but the treat of the day was this beast doing a couple of circuits overhead.

Looks to me like Avro Lancaster (please correct me if I'm wrong) 🥰
Seems Imperial War Museum in Duxford would be your friend ;)
There are as far as I remember 3x air show a year- with aircrafts like that 🤩

Fabulous looking bit of machinery, but I had to Google Magirus Deutz and there is a very dark side to the company's history: "Magirus was responsible for designing and building vans used to Gas hundreds of thousands of Jews..."
I'm not sure I could bring myself to own one, although if this one was built in '61....
And I suppose if I was going to get on my moral high horse, I shouldn't really be comfortable owning a VW either 🤔
