Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

“Oh, what’s occurring?..”

More from the Gower. Up and along the hills to Rhossili, over the causeway to Worms Head and back via the beach. The Welsh Rarebit and Welsh Teacake flavoured ice cream enroute were bang tidy…

Ah! Nice pics. Rhosilli and Worms Head. That brings back nice memories. We've got photos of us there in the late seventies and back again a couple of years later in the early eighties with our baby daughter (she's now 45!) Fabulous beaches and friendly people. Lots of traffic in small roads even then. Reminds me of home here in North Cornwall. We have always been drawn to places like that. Dawlish Warren, Brittany, Fuerteventura, Crantock (luckily the view out of my window). I'm pretty sure we would like the West coast of Scotland wee beasties excepted in my case! Not to mention Ireland where we have never set foot. So many places, so little time.

I would love to live near there. Oh wait…

Still at Camping Lopari on Losinj and despite weather forecasts to the contrary, it peed down again last night and where I hadn't adjusted the awning to allow the rain to run off, we had what amounted to a small swimming pool collect in it - the weight of the water was such that the underside of the awning was almost touching the table under it. Because of that, I had to get out of my pit at 0400 hrs (in my pants!) to push the awning up and empty the water as well as adjusting the poles etc. Ironically, the rain stopped not long after I went out and didn't return. We woke up to sunshine and it's been like that all day. We had a 2 Km or so walk into the nearest town this morning and spent the rest of the day on the very uncrowded campsite beach about 50M from the van. I flew the drone and took this picture - the town (Osor) is at the top centre and me, our brolly and beach shelter are near bottom left:

Final full day on the Gower. Headed North and clockwise via Rhossili Bay Beach, Broughton Bay, Whiteford Sands and a summit of Llanmadoc Hill. A well received Pint was had in Llangennith before completing the loop into Hillend.

On to Pembrokeshire tomorrow with great expectations, but this gem has set the bar very high…

We’ve driven from Swindon to Moffat on Wednesday, stayed overnight with family (in the van on the drive), then we drove to Claonaig last night and camped on the ferry ramp to get the ferry to Lochranza on Arran today. The regular ferry is out of service so there is a smaller replacement running the service. Fortunately, having camped in the line we’re 4th in line and confident of getting across. It’s a zoo behind us though and there’s loads of vehicles waiting in the hope of crossing.
Story continued - we got on the ferry but it was so small it had 1 tanker, 3 vans including ours and 3 cars.
We’ve driven to Brodick for our first stop. We’re parked up on front near the port looking out into the bay.

Are you still on Arran @CAB? Did I we pass earlier today as I was heading towards Kildonan and you (or a van like yours) went the opposite direction?

It’s bright like I’d like the weather to be. We’re at Seal Shore campsite for 1 night. It’s windy, it’s raining alternately with occasional sunny intervals. There’s folks in the sea. Someone’s brought a sauna to the seaside and they’re taking a cold plunge. Crazy folks.

The CAMC Site by St David’s Head in the Wild West of Wales seems a nice spot to explore from so far. Late afternoon leg stretch yesterday enabled us to get our bearings. Area appears a bit ‘Dartmoor on Sea’, which is ideal for walking. Weather front due today with gusts forecast in excess of 50mph overnight…
