Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Couple of nights at Bank House Farm site in the Peak District with some mates. Great site with good facilities and nice pub close by.

Mates van is a bit larger than ours!!

There were a plenty of other Transporters there too (in the background of this pic). Including one with a huge TV and I’m sure I saw an iron too! Where do they fit it all?!!

Just to the garden centre BUT for the 1st time in nearly 2 years SWMBO actually gave in and drove the van. 1st time ever as a passenger in my own motor. Weird feeling but at least she knows its not that scary now!!

My wife gave in once and reluctantly agreed to drive the 6 mile trip back home….of course it was the ‘mother’ of all journeys back home…everything that could happen in that short distance ‘did’ happen!!! She hasn’t driven it since! 😂 😂

I haven't been reporting on our current trip as my phone has been playing up but it's all sorted now - also haven't taken any pics aas yet. We left home in Glos on Saturday and had a night at The Drumm Inn campsite a few miles from the tunnel terminal - we've stayed there before and it's always been an OK stop at £26 that's less than 10 minutes from tunnel. We caught the 0930 train to Calais and on arrival hit the autoroute for the run to Verdun, stopping at Camping Le Breuil - that had been our intention as Verdun is a really nice town with a lot of bars and eateries to choose from but the wether conspired against us with torrential rain meaning that we stayed at the site and ate in their restaurant which was actually pretty good. Leaving the next morning, we got as far as Camping Bella Augusta on the outskirts of Augsburg, Germany. Again, we've been there before and it's a good site with top drawer sanitary facilities. It's also next to a large lake with a really good beer garden which was closed for some reason (possibly the weather and their lack of outdoor space!) - a p[ity really as they had a stein of Paulaner with my name on it. In the end, we had passable pizzas and beer in the on-site trattoria.. It peed down again for most of the night but had cleared by the time we woke up this morning. We set off again this morning for a longish drive past Munich and across Austria and are now campe at Camping Ferien am Walde near Ledenitzn having been turned away from a site a few Km away which was full due to what they reckon is the largest meeting of Harley Davison owners in Europe happening this week and into the weekend. Luckily they fitted us into the corner of a field at this site but it's likely to be choice as the week goes on. I can well believe the brags about the size of the meet as there seems (literally) to be thousands of the buggers around. My wife was a bit concerned about even staying in the area where so many bikers were but I assured her we would be OK as they were most likely to all be middle aged accountants, dentists and doctors. Indeed, after we had sorted out the pitch, I commplimented our neighbour on his bike and after further conversation discovered that he was the MD of a chemical company near Munich! That said, there already seem to be a few casualties in the bar so I dread to think what it will be like by about 2300. Being partially deaf and having earplugs definitely has it's advantages!
We're moving onto Slovenia tomorrow but will probably drive on through to Croatia and spend a couple of days in Ljubjana on the way home.

Further to my post a couple up, I should also have written about campsite costs. Verdun was €23, Augsburg €27 and the current site an eye watering €60 - they’re really cashing in on the Harley festival and it was cash only. Ordinarily, I might have told them to stuff it and gone elsewhere but I reckoned that anywhere else in the area would have been equally as expensive and after a long drive, didn’t fancy going much further.

And just to prove my point, apart from a couple of pissheads singing german drinking songs a long way from our pitch and certainly too far to disturb us, the entire place (inc. bar and restaurant) was dead by about 2130. Maybe they're all saving themselves for later in the week!
