Where Have You Been In Your Van Today?

Just a quick update. We’re still slogging our way up Portugal. Currently just south of Figueira da Foz on a cracking little campsite

We’ve been alternating between stealthing it & campsites, about 50:50. Had some cracking free over nighters, many with spotless public loos, some even have showers.
Ate at a restaurant that Rick Stein visited on his Lisbon weekend, superb.

Had a day in Lisbon. Stayed in a free aire in Almada & got the train into the centre of Lisbon, €5 return.

Awesome Lisbon and OPorto are beautiful cities

What had you done wrong for them to find you?
I was driving through a town heading towards Fisterra, following the sat nav. I saw a sign showing a scenic route to the left and on the nav it also showed it as an alternative route. I decided to turn around and saw a petrol station ahead on my left that I could turn into to go back the way I came. I knew the police were behind me as they had been for a short distance. Indicated left, waited for the oncoming traffic to pass and turned in. The police followed me and pulled me in. He spoke fairly good English and pointed out the bloody sign telling me that it was no left turn which I hadn't seen. Bugger. The way he was talking, I thought I was just going to get advice, but no, "do you want to pay cash or by card" was his question!

All he wanted was my licence. no check of V5, passport or insurance.

Easy money... bet if you paid cash he'd have slipped it right into his pocket

Some folk like putting solar panels on their roof. Sod that, might as well go big and have a turbine.

If you air-out, can you probably still make it under a 2m barrier... just

That was my thought when I chose card, although TBF to them, I don't think it would have been like that. It was all a digitally produced ticket and printed out from their iPad type thing.

I'le d'O'leron, Brittany. Overcast and a little cool yesterday when we arrived and also first thing today but by 1200 hrs it was getting very warm with a forecast out to next week of sunny and in the mid to late 20s. We're at a campsite called Camping Signol which apparently has space for 500 or so but has only about occupation of around 100 at the moment (inc. lodges and pitches) but it will probably get busier tomorrow. With a pool complex etc. and only 10 minutes from a nice beach it really puts a lot of UK sites to shame at only 19 Euros a night. Just offshore from the aforementioned beach is the fort (Fort Boyard) where the 1990s game show The Crystal Maze was filmed.

Nice walk up the Breamish Valley, stopping at the Ingram Cafe which does great food and cakes. Shame the hills were covered in mist! Never mind am going back tomorrow.

I can highly recommend the College Valley, a bit further north past Wooler. Cars are banned past the car park and it's so quiet !
We did Ingram recently and I concur on your review
