The tyres on my van are going to need replacement in the foreseeable.

The current Cooper ATT's jn 235/55 18 have been on since new and TBH I've no great issue with any aspect of their performance. They're quiet, good in the dry, predictable in the wet, and have even proven adept enough in a couple of inches of snow. Id be happy enough using them again if it came to that.

But im open to suggestions. While I'm happy with the ATTs theyre at the road biased end of Coopers range (they do 5 different types of AT from mild to Rambo) but I've no ideological objection totally weather boots.

Wear levels not terribly important. Its a low mileage van and the rubber will likely time out before it wears oit, as is the case with the current rubber.

So, T28 2wd with a camper conversion, suspension standard apart from Eibach rear levelling springs, mainly used on road but occasionally needs to handle a rutted unpaved track for about 1/4 mile which is bumpy but fairly hard packed. Im a fairly sedate driver, smooth on all the controls, not a point-and-squirt merchant like today's youngsters seem to be.

So those of you running tyres of that size on your van...what are you using, and how is it going?

Oh, and no budget rubbish. It weighs a ton and blunts performance, and I like my stopping distances nice and tight and my breakaway predictable. If I couldn't afford decent rubber im in the wrong vehicle.

I’ve just fitted some Michelin Primacy 5s. Vast improvement and comfort over my last set of no such premium tyres. (Although my wheels are 19” not 28).

good quality rubber is number 1 on my non-negotiable list.
There are three brands that I choose from;

Continental - vancontact 100/200 last ages, grip well on corners, and stop extremely well.

Michelin - all my bike tyres are michelin, no exceptions, for 4 wheels applications their pilot sport is very good, and the “S” version is incredible when you get them hot… completely useless in sub zero conditions though… guess how I know…

Goodyear - the eagle asymmetric range are brilliant, better wet weather characteristics than the two above, last we’ll, think I got 10k out of a set on my golf R, my Evo 9 devoured a set in 4K, but I only drive that in the way god intended 😈

I will never entertain Pirelli tyres, I did once, they tried to kill me twice on one ride, once on power, lit the rear wheel up in a strait line for no apparent reason, and once under moderate braking, locking the front… not fun!

Just looked on black circles … good price for my size on 18s £164
Yeah, I've had an exploratory nosey on BC. They do Hankook Kinergy 3S with a 104 rating and theyre on my shortlist as I've very positive experience of those on my XC90.

No urgency, I'll get through to then spring, but its nice to mull these things over well jn advance.

Thanks Ali. The promotion ends a bit early for me, but I'll be keeping an eye on their page for similar deals,

I have 275/40ZR 20 106W XL on mine and can never seem to find an exact match on the sites.

It's a bit like the DFS sale, it's been running for a while now.
I bought 4 Pilot Sports for my Golf in early 2024 and took advantage of the offer so you should be okay.
