50mph hum / higher pitched drone

Hi all

Have had a look through wheel bearing bits and bobs but not sure mine are bearings.
Got an annoying higher pitched hum / drone that I think is rear left - have had the van up but no play in rear wheels and no gnarly sounds when spinning. Just a bit of disc rub.

Also had a look at tyres but can't see any saw-toothing or anything untoward. Images and a vid attached here. Be good to know if anyone has any other ideas before I head to a garage.

Have ATT tyres (cooper att) with about 6k on them. Noise has been apparent the last 600 miles I think.

Try switching tyre positions and see if the noise moves.
You could try another set of wheels / tyres if you have them but if it is the tyres would you ditch them or live with the noise? If you’d keep them there isn’t much point in chasing it.

Yeh mebs it’s just resonance at a certain wear point.
I’ll be switching tyres positions at next service within 1k anyway so will have a look then.

Just seeing if anyone had any random reasons etc. I just find it weird it only happens bang on 50mph. Will turn tunes up for now

It’s harmonics (not adele), the whole vehicle is resonating, only some of it is audible to you and other frequencies are cancelled by others.

FWIW my Coooer ATTs are very quiet, as befits a fairly continuous tread pattern. Doesnt mean you don't have a faulty tyre perhaps.

Never gets better itself, well worth fixing before it does cause more issues than increased fuel consumption.
Having Nutexa’s discs and pads fitted at next service end of Jan so no bother on that one

yep
Hopefully after another few hundred miles it’ll sod off as tyre wears a bit more - who knows.

Annoyingly I don’t have an impact etc and can’t switch wheels around myself as they’ve been tightened more than a gnats arsehole

If you can’t remove them with a decent breaker bar I’d be looking to replace all of the bolts and never visit the same tyre fitters again.
To many retards employed in tyre shops, if I can’t watch them work I don’t spend my money there.

Try changing tyre pressure by a few pounds perhaps?
Have dropped tyres from 47 to 45 - no difference. Didn’t expect there to be either.

No difference on road surfaces or corners so may be something else other than tyres. Random as.
Nothing has changed on the van so maybe it’s just one of those things that’ll buggar off on its own

I had a similar situation in my van, with a set of 18" Nokian tyres.
I'd kept the 16" Claytons and tyres that the van came with so I put the Claytons back on and the whine disappeared.
I changed the Nokians when they had loads of tread left and no visible defects as the noise was doing my head in.
As an aside, you probably ought to sort your wheel studs out as it's better to do it as a planned event than find yourself with a flat tyre somewhere and no way to get the wheel off. Sods law says it'll be dark, cold and raining too.

Yeh will be sorting.

I'll get tyres etc checked over at service and if no improvement / nowt wrong after another few monthsI may end up switching them for some Goodyear's or something
