What are your plans?

image.jpeg Just sat her daydreaming about the little things on my wish list that I am yet to do.... Spacing it out as I don't want to do everything and have nothing to do, so far here's the things I've done (for a day/work/charity bike delivery van):

Rear spoiler
Rear insulation, sound deadening
Carpet lining
Head lining
Rear speaker install
Side bars
Alloys
Slight lower springs
Sign writing

Here's what I've still planned:
Take some badges off
Add a generation 6 badge
Install the extra door seals I bought
Colour code bottom grills
Front spoiler or splitter
Front speaker upgrade
Front door sound deadening
Possible re-trim (longer term)
Possible remap (longer term)

Anything You have done or want to do or think I 'need' to add to my list.

It's geeky, but such a nice hobby having a vehicle you can really make your own!

One thing I always loved about Transporters is that no mater if it's used for business or pleasure you can sti make them stand out from every other van in the road.

I so far have only managed:
Rear spoiler (not sure if I like it or not at this stage)
Front splitter
LED DRL light bars
Upgraded bulbs
Extra door seals
Wind deflectors

Still to do:
Sign writing (it's still a work van), roof, mirrors and front lower bumper strip wrapped. This is all being done this Thursday.
Lowered
Alloys
Side bars
Sound deadening
Insulated
Carpeted
Internal LED lights
Rear speakers
Front speaker upgrade
Dash cam
Rear passenger USB and 12v sockets
Plus lots things that I haven't even thought of yet but will probably be really cool.

God it's scary when you write it down.

So far:
30mm lower
18" T5.1 Sportlines
Silver side pipes
Gen 6 emblems
Sound deadened and insulated with SilentCoat and DodoMat Thermo
All ply panels lined - roof to match cab roof, side panels to match seat colors
Rear speakers fitted (Kenwood)
Compo Media recoded to enable rear fader etc
Rear spoiler (Genuine VW)
Lower front grille chrome trim (Genuine VW)
Swissvax Shield - two applications since December

To do:
Front splitter (Customvanz) OR
Genuine VW front spoiler
DRL's
Mud flaps (but not sure)
Front speaker upgrade and front door sound deaden etc

Dear Santa !:
Sports exhaust
Wheel swap (19's poss)

I plan to

Get vw to build the van.
Get kitted out and graphics fitted.
Silent coat the whole cab area then dodo mass loaded vinyl it all
Fit Alpine x801 and hybrid audio l6se l1pro r2 front speakers and genesis amps etc etc
Slam it on b14 with h&r roll bars and rear camber bushes.
Fit 19" 3sdms
Fit rear spoiler.

Then probably decided spray and fit the abt kit (not including the spoiler and grill) and gloss black up the grills.

Then remap.

Loads of you are insulating and sound deadening - I want this now! Planning to be able to camp and sleep in the back!

I have a panel van on the way so I presume its a simple case of remove ply lining, cut and stick on self adhesive insulation into all panels, replace panelling. Am I about right?

Can someone point me in the direction of a decent quality product. Im a tight git mind, keep cost in mind

I'm sorry, come again. Just for some shiny bubble wrap with foam stuck to it? For a few hundred I'd want it done by topless babes from an American beach volleyball team covered in soapy suds

Depends on your approach, the proper sound deadening stuff is the expensive part, and you need a fair bit if your going to do it like the link above but just a single piece on each panel will make a difference.
I basically used this Medium Van Upgrade Bundle @ £250 not the cheapest way to go but well happy with the results

My plans , well it goes in on 19th for 3 weeks to be converted for refrigeration, this will mean the rear will be insulated but with paying out £4800 for conversion I am getting the new under chassis conversion so no unsightly fridge unit sitting on roof. So it will still look like normal panal van.
Already purchased 20" gts alloys ( same ones from custom vanz ) and will be getting front grills sprayed gloss black with trim in red.
Side bars
Roof bars
Fog lights and new trims fitting.
Definitely new front sportline spoiler.
Rear spoiler for barn doors.
And may look into lowering it ( but will have to look into properly as I carry decent weight already )
Great forum, with some fantastic ideas and pics.

I can add tinted rear window to my list of done items now done to keep potential thieving eyes off what is the back oh and it's all washed and dried, ready for the sign writing and wrapping which is being done tomorrow.

Good luck at the Signwriters Rob, what you going for? a full wrap or cut graphics?
Wanted to ask as well, what DRLs did you use? I've been waiting for the VW ones to be released, but were yours easy to do?

Remembered I did want to replace bulbs for better light ones too, that's now added to the list.

I am going for the roof, middle section of the bonnet and top of the mirrors wrapped in a Matt grey, the VW badge and chrome trim on the grill wrapped in Matt black and the bottom of the mirrors and thick strip on the lower grill wrapped in red. Then the actual sign writing it's self if cut vinyl in the Matt grey to match.

As for the DRL's they are Phillips and I used a multi tool to cut out the trim for them to fit which was easy enough and one thing I do like about them is that when the main lights come on they dim down to 50% brighteness and work well with the stop start. I was initially a little concerned as they point of to the side slightly (not loads but not in the 10deg recommendation of front of the vehicle) but after seeing the ones fitted by custom vanz they appear to do the same so not bothered by that at all now. @RattyMcClelland how far have you lowered before, do you know it needs the rear camber bushes? Should I add them to my list before trying alignment, rather do it all in one go if needed.

Thanks Rob, those DRL's do look like a good, factory look option. And the wrap/graphics ideas sound ace, my business 'brand' colours are black, red, white and Slate Grey so I am liking your style!

Regarding the sign writing for the van, does it higher or lower your insurance, as they always ask that question.
Along with has it got racking/ shelving ?

We have had several work vans over the years and its never made a difference, had them with and without livery & racking etc
The only one that can help slightly is bad driver hotline but its very minimal and only with a few select insurers, would prob make more of a difference with fleet policies but we only ever have a few at a time so dont do fleet

Thanks Pauly, always wondered why they ask that. Don't think I'm going to go down route of sign writing at moment.
And I know it's been said before but hats off to you for sorting and running this, because it helps the less clued up like myself get to know a lot more about the vehicle that I'm about to spend a small fortune on !!!!!
