Water but from where?

Hello All,

Have had my T6.1 kombi since November. In June noticed some water after I had washed my van as in the photo below - this is the front passenger. Nothing at all in the cab liningIMG_8622.webp or on the step or on the floor. Went to VW who replaced the door seal but it is still occurring. Booked in again with them but they are unsure of it's entry. I do have roof rails and suggested if we should be removing these but they said that it was the wrong place for water to collect if it was leaking from there - it should come down the A pillar and pool on the mat under the glove box - so said not to remove for now. The van had had a front speaker upgrade prior to me buying it and I don't know if something got disrupted when that was done but if so, would that take 7 months of ownership to show?

And then in the last month I have had water collect in the lower door slider groove again after a wash and also on the near side - again no water in the cab lining, windows are not obviously leaking and there is no water in the rear step. VW think that the cause of this is that the carpeting inside the van has gone too far under the rubber seals and that is causing the water to collect in the lower slider area.

Van is parked on almost level ground (driver side of van ever so slightly lower than the near side).
Could these two things be related or coincidental and what could be the cause?

Any advice would be greatly received as the failure to remedy this is getting me a bit down.
Thanks in advance.

My initial thought for the front step area would be to do with the air con/fan. The fresh air intake if passenger side in the scuttle and I think there is a collector in the fan housing with a drain hose poking back through the bulkhead into the engine bay.

The back may be the carpet under the seals - need some photos of the back area.

Of course, I might well be wrong!

Have you got roof bars fitted? I've seen a few reports where it's the holes in the roof aren't sealed properly that causes this

Thank for this @mmi. Seems like another thing with VWs. Every mod I have looks cool but just seems to cause me trouble in the long run!

I have no DIY skills whatsoever. Can anyone recommend someone to look at this? Would it be the likes of @Dav-Tec or @Absolut5 or would a good conversion company also know about this issue?
