Some screenshots maybe helpful so we can see what your looking at, what is it you are not seeing ?

It will never present you with a login screen, if you are trying to run a restricted function then you need to click on security access button

VCDS is still initialising - loading engine specific functions and data - see "Loading ASAM data" on top left. Meanwhile all function buttons are grayed out.

Once correct data set is loaded, the buttons are updated respectively. Thus there is no "Login" function in the engine.

Correct - there are no hidden adaptations (behind Security Access)

If there is such a function in the engine, it would be in "Basic Settings".

Have you got a reference about EGR adaptation?

The workshop manual for CAAB engine doesn't mention need to adapt EGR.

Just fitted an egr cooler to a CAAA engine, I've got obd11, there's an option to adapt, did do it, says completed or words to that effect but after showing the text, it's still spinning as if it's doing something, eventually gave up, seems to be running fine, always has a slight hunt at start but goes if you rev it up. I've found over the years manuals show less information regarding set up information, not just vw.
