VCDS cable not clearing fault codes.

Some will know that I hit a speed bump and all manner of electrical problems ensued.
I cleared the codes (or so I thought) with VCDS and on a rescan they all came back.
Van still toast.

Just had a mobile auto electrician turn out to the van and his snap on machine cleared the codes and none have come back and now everything electrical is back to normal.

Has anyone else had this issue?

nope,

i have a snap-on (veritus) scanner, its good.

but no where as near as good as the VCDS for VW specific stuff.

have you test driven it around a few times?


im assuming you didnt clear the codes correctly before with VCDS?

the codes will clear after a clear down . . . unless there is a hard fault.


then any other codes may come back after an engine restsrt and test drive.

(a) under Auto-Scan - clear all DTCs​

or​

(b) all controllers separately: VCDS > Select > Controller > Fault codes > Clear codes​

T6 doesn't seem to honor very well broadcast message sent by method (a) thus fails to clear faults.

In my experience better use method (b) on T6.

yeh agreed . . . defo go into each controller,

read codes,

note & record codes - i take a picture of the screen.

delete codes,

recsan module for codes to ensure they are gone (unless a hard fault exists)

exit and move to next module,


then

KEY OFF,


KEY ON,

Engine start. run for a while, and short test drive.


then

KEY OFF,


KEY ON,

RESCAN for Codes.

Yeah, just method a) under auto scan.
It’s always worked in the past.
