Hi all

My T6 Kombi is currently being fitted with SCA roof, awning and slidepod together with leisure battery, heater etc. Aviva won’t insure so I am looking for a suitable company but my main question is .....Do I have to notify DVLA of the vehicle mods. Aviva seemed to think that I do. The slidepod is removable however so doesn’t really constitute in built cooking facility. Thanks in advance.

I had same problem with my Shuttle. Had to cancel with Privilage once roof was added. Went with Just Kampers (Herts ins) who do a conversion policy that allows you a year to convert you van to a camper.

I'd imagine if your trying to insure it as a camper (motorcaravan) then most insurance companies would want it 're classified with DVLA. That maybe advantageous as it can be cheaper to insure and your speed limits go to 60/70/70mph (as with cars) assuming your unladen mass is no more than 3050kg.

It would have to meet the DVLA criteria though for the reclassification. My Shuttle doesn't yet qualify as a motorcaravan so not sure why DVLA would need or want to know otherwise.

Just insured through A plan. Very helpful and allows van to have on oing mods. So far so good.

I did try A plan. However the chap that specialises in conversions in their company looked into it. Got back to me and said he couldn't get me a quote as my conversion was starting life as a 9 seat shuttle as opposed to a PV or kombi.

I went through LV when I bought my Kombi and had a few cosmetic changes like the spoiler and splitter. A year later I had my Austops roof fitted and called them to report this and they said it won't change as it was still listed as an 'External Modification'! I must admit I thought that sounded odd, but wasn't going to complain.

Hi all,
We are looking at insurance again. What is your experience with courtesy or replacement cars in the EU or the UK. They are saying that they can't guarantee that the replacement would be a van. Have any of you got insurance where a van is guaranteed?
Thanks!

I went with Adian Flux. Mine was a panel van converted to a day van with full width RIB seat bed making it a 6 seater. Reclassified with DVLA as an MPV.

£435 fully comp.
