Tyre Size Dilema

Morning all, I'm currently looking at the pros and cons between tyre sizes. I'm thinking of switching from 215/60/17c to 235/55/17 (103 XL). I currently have Cargo Vector all seasons on there but the rears need changing.

I'm think of swapping all four to 235/55/17 or staying as I am. Unfortunately price of tyre brand is an issue and I know there is plenty of discussion on here about premium brands which I get and understand and also the less well known brands.

Anyhow back on track, pros and cons between the two and your views would great.

Thanks.

hi mate Costco are doin a deal on goodyear tyres at mo £30 off a pair +free fitting think the size you want are £110 -£115 before discount may be worth a look not on offer long Monday I think:thumbsdown:

I'm not sure I understand your question. There is absolutely no noticeable difference in sizing between both of your choices, so why do you want to change the size? Or are you saying that the 215/60/17 are generally more expensive than the 235/55/17?

Hi Tourershine, thanks for your reply. I was just wondering whether there any benefits over one or the other and yes you are right. The current size is very limited and generally more expensive. Does the handling and ride differ with the 235's?

Thanks again

There shouldn't be any difference mate.
You've dropped the profile and added the width, but in reality that just equates to the same contact patch, give or take a few millimetres.

Check out the measurements in here if it helps https://www.willtheyfit.com

One benefit is you can run the 235/55 at a lower pressure for the same load carrying; this makes a significant difference to improved comfort.
Oh and on other little thing, is pure vanity, (van-it-y....;))
The narrower tyres look absolutely pathetic & pants.........
and the wider tyres look gorgeous; manly; up for it; particularly with spacers......

Or is it a case of trying to make up for being a few mm missing somewhere else :eek::eek::slow rofl:

From my door jamb Vel Exec.
These tyres tun at between 9psi F & 12 psi R lower for the same load; this is why VW fit this tyre to the Vel Exec; its more expensive , but the ride is 100% better at the lower pressures.

Really? Where did you get this fact from? Any references?
