I have got a T6.1 T32 with 20" wheels. I need to replace the tyres but i am struggling to find any tyres with the correct load rating. I need 275/40/20 for the back and 245/40/20 for the front. I can get the rears with the correct load rating but the front size only come in 99 rating, the tyres are bridgestone. The only tyres i can find are nankang which i have never heard of. Are these tyres any good? what other tyres are people running?
Thanks in advance

Have a Search loads of opinions on Nankang, no they aren’t the best.

They are the only make that do the size i need in the correct load rating. Just checked my existing tyres and they are only rated 99 which is not high enough and i have been running them for a couple of years with no problems. I normally run the van empty so i am leaning toward getting a decent tyre make with the correct load rating on the back but 99 rating on the front.

My other option is to go for a 45 profile tyre which i can get in the correct load rating but will this mess up my speedo?

I know that the UK is extremely tolerant about tyre sizes (I dream about that here) but wouldn't a clearly underrated wheel cause at very least MOT failure?

I mean that being a practical and foreseeable problem, let alone the vague possibility of being pulled by the police and your car license suspended or being involved in an accident and the insurance refusing to cover you.

Unfortunately not on a class 4 MOT. If the insurance company or Police deems it to be a contributory factor to an accident, who knows you might not be receiving an insurance payout or worse still wide open to a civil court case paying for somebodies care for the rest of their life.
Beats me why people choose to risk there own and others safety on the basis that somebody might admire their wheels.

Bureaucracy is fantastic.
There you may get failed for a LED bulb (even the few really good ones that have CE approval) but no problem, you can go around with wheels that are not only not in the car certificate but also severely weight underrated by some hundreds of Kg. Why being class 4 MOT matters is beyound me. Like if I have a Mini can I install bicycle tyres on it?
I am shocked every time I look into this Forum about the fantastic choice of wheels you have (and you can even go around scratching your car bottom on the road, SoLow style!).

On the other hand, here I can choose only from 2 approved tyre sizes that are in my papers, both commercial rated (and unfortunately if I try to be smart they will catch me immediately because police has T6s as a most standard issue car) . Anything else needs a costly modification approval and test. But hey, I can install freely LED bulbs, they even push for that, they are a safety improvement, they are even "green".

245/45 r20 very very similar rolling radius to your rears @scoob99 , Michelin CC3's, around £225 each, my next move when my CC2's run out... and around 7% speedo error. Great tyres.

The only reason I was considering the 99 rated tyres is since I took the wheels off for a refurb I noticed they were a 99 rating it has only just been motd by Volkswagen and passed with no issues. I think I will go down the 45 profile tyres route as I don’t really want to put nankangs on my van and I want the correct load rated tyres. I know this will put my Speedo out a bit but I don’t have much option. It was just a question to see if other people have had the same problem and how they got round it.

That is unlikely, that size is 8% larger diameter than a standard tyre size.

Have you checked against gps speed, or has your speedo been adjusted to compensate?
Oh shit, yes you are right. Just changed from my winter wheels and forgot that it is THOSE ones are spot in at 235 55 18. The 20s read about 3-4mph out at 70mph. Apologies for the error!

Does anyone else run a 45 profile tyre on their 20” wheels
Yes, I’m running 245/45r20 103 Goodyear Eagle F1’s, great tyres. I also paid £30 to have my Speedo recalibrated by a VW specialist too. Great tyres with no rubbing at all now. I’m lowered on Bilstein B14 Komfort coil overs and was experiencing a slight rubbing on 275/40r20’s, so they had to go. No issues of any kind on the 245/45r20’s.

That’s good to know thanks. How much was your speedo out by?
It was out by 3mph at about 40mph. So when the Speedo was bang on 40mph, I was actually doing 43mph. Now it’s about 2mph under, which is how it should be. Took the guys 10 minutes to fix with VCDS.
