Tyre choice? Uniroyal/ nankang…?

Vehicles with shit tyres end up in ditches and rivers because of shit drivers.
Little update… after trawling black circles and many other sites, stumbled upon national tyres, 20% off most tyres.
Managed to get Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 6 all round in the size stated for £ 684.76. With mobile fitting. Only £18 odd quid more than the uniroyal and seem to have good reviews. Fingers crossed

Can't find that price??
It's showing £770 for 4 after the discount when I check.
You did order 4 tyres? 😆

How many track cars have you prepped?
Six, as it happens. Two Astras, two Volvos, a Nissan and a Lotus. And not mere track cars for little boys who cant drive properly blasting round Donny in a Saxo or Golf on a track day. Proper competition vehicles, one being a class winner and another being a series winner. The things we do when were young and dumb, and are flexible enough to bend our way past roll cages, eh?

As the only qualified collision investigator among the two of us I think I'll not be changing my mind about how cars end up off the road, thank you very much ducky. You, however, are very welcome to sorry on as you are if youre happy to do so, just dont be telling me its day time simply besause the moon is out.

Yeah, but they don’t count if you didn’t use racing Nankangs.
One was on Colways because BITD they were sponoring us. They were still better than Nankangs.

They're so bad that in South Africa terrorists refuse to use Nankangs when putting burning tyres round people's necks.

Alright sir, sorry officer sir.

The truth is you have no idea what I’m qualified in, because I don’t feel the need to tell everyone on the internet to stroke my ego.

Never actually raced round Donnigton, worked in the pits a few times. Surprised you didn’t know that seems as you know literally everything else.

If anyone is interested Tyre Reviews did a test a couple of years back.

There is a tab at the top of the article that takes you to his YouTube video - just don’t watch if you like big foam gingerbread men as it’ll ruin your evening.

Wet weather is the big test and…
the best cheap tyre added just over 7m to the wet stopping distance and the worst added almost 15m!

Just to add in here that I'm surprised or maybe a little alarmed that while everyone was measuring their tyre dicks no one thought to ask what size the rims were as the post only stated tyre sizes. No one asked what type van it is, T28/T30 or T32 or 4 Motion ... how much is it lowered etc. Are the rims 8.5" wide, or 9 or staggered ? While the tyre sizes quoted are popular (245/45/20, 275/40/20) they are by no means the best or even the correct tyres for these vans, assuming its a T5/T6. I hear a lot of people saying they use these tyre sizes as 'that was what was on the van when I bought it' or 'my mate reckons' or worse still 'thats what the company supplying the wheels fitted". You need to look at the OEM size tyres 205/65/16 stay as close to that rolling radius as possible.

As regards Uniroyal or Nankang, it's always Uniroyal or at least midrange over budget but having that said Nankang's are far from the worst and have improved in recent years. I've had a few on cars but cant vouch for heavier vans. Within reason the more you spend on tyres the better they are and if you can get a special offer then all the better. Very often when buying 4 tyres the price differential between budget and premium is about the price of 1 tyre. I recently put 4 Bridgestone Potenza Sport 255/40/20 101 on my T30 and they are excellent. I had Uniroyal Rainsport 5's before that.

Catching the bus is preferable to driving on Nankangs. They're not known as "ditchfinders" for no reason, and test after test shows them to this day to lag behind even middle quality rubber. Hell, if they cant even be arsed to think of a decent name for them like TurboGripPremium or something, then how arsed will they be improving the actual product itself? I've dealt with enough vehicles on their roof over the years to go anywhere near Nankang, Silverstone, Radar or Wanli.

In my experience, which is only with cars, Uniroyal boots are good performers, particularly in poor conditions we experience in the UK. That doesnt automatically mean theyll be good on the van, but it is a positive sign. Come what may theyll be better than Nankang bakelite specials. Hell, taking the tyres off and smearing the rims with lard would be better than Nankangs.

Don't spend 50 grand buying a van only to end up in a wall because you tried to save £170 on rubber - its beyond comprehension why people do that. Save up and fit the very best you can manage.
This is very old news.
Nankangs have been good performers for last 15 yrs +

Sooo…rookie error, i didn’t get any tpms sensors…i was recommended autel metal one’s which are silver. Rubber are black so blend in better. I know its not a big deal. Just don’t want to get the wrong ones that aren't actually fit for purpose ??
