Good afternoon!

Im looking for some advice on new tyres! I currently have KMC holeshots with BF Goodrich All terrain 245/65/17 tyres. Front two are getting to the stage of replacing and backs won't be far behind.

Before I purchase the same set again, I was wondering if anyone had any alternative recommendations? I'm not bothered on price of the tyre but the current tyres can be quite loud.

Another one for Cooper ATTs if you decide to go the AT route. Quiet, grippy, they don't feel like an AT when on the move. All the AT looks but with a distinct road bias, but with enough left in hand for poor surfaces. Very pleasantly surprised with them.

Firstly the tyres that you are using and considering are all off road biased tyres do you really need that sort of tyre because they are compromised on the road by comparison. They are also expensive particularly the BFG. I have not driven with Wild Peak but I have used BFG AT KO2 and General Grabber AT3. Off road the BFG is the better on wet grass deep mud and is a very tough tyre and will absorb abuse on rough rocky terrain. I absolutely need off road biased tyres most of the year around because I live off road and have my own land. I also used to do a lot of off road driving for pleasure on legal rights of way through out Wales and England and belonged to off road clubs associated with Landrover and have loads of experience with all sorts of of road vehicles from the smallest Suzuki to large UNIMOG and plenty in between. If you do not need off road biased tyres then something like All Season tyres are all that most people need for camp sites and occasional forays off the road. AS Tyres will give far better on road handling and grip in wet or dry conditions as well as braking will also last longer. My suggestion for most people would be something like Michelin CrossClimate, on the 1st of July they will become available in the 3rd series so CrossClimate 3. Give them a look over or similar tyres from other top tyre manufacturers.

Apart from the road biased ones... which are not off road biased. The aforementioned ATT is one such boot.

Cooper do six different AT tyres ranging from road biased to full on off road. Hankook do (or did) three. And so on. There are far too many options available to make sweeping statements about ATs being off road biased - in many instances that is simply untrue.

Hi N13LRO!

Ended up with Bridgestone Dueler AT002 and would definitely recommend.

Massive reduction in road noise from the BF Goodrich KO2.

Handling feels much lighter and overall very impressed!
 
At the risk of sounding like a stuck record, I can’t recommend Michelin Agilis CC enough. I’m currently halfway up France working my way back to Blighty. We’ve been away for 2 months. We crossed the Pyrenees in horrendous hail storms and torrential rain, down into Portugal and baking 40C+ desert conditions. We’ve done over 3000 miles in the last 2 months in just about every conceivable condition. The Agilis tyres have never missed a beat. The van has felt planted and confident in every circumstance. They might not be the big chunky rufty tufty look that some folk aspire to, but by eck they’re a bloody good tyre.

I seem to be finding them with 2 different tread patterns???

Certainly in the West Midlands all ambulances are always fitted with these and have been for years.

Not that I can see, we had to pull over it was that bad. I couldn’t see the road & the wipers couldn’t cope. When we eventually set off, there was about 4” of ice & slush on the road. The lightening was the most spectacular I’ve ever seen.IMG_1929.webp

From looking at tyre reviews for years and years one thing is clear - the big brands know what they’re doing and generally it’s either Michelin, Conti or Pirelli that place highest. Budget brands place lowest with sometimes such bad results you wonder how they are even legal. I remember one added 21m vs the best in a wet stopping distance test. Might be cheap until you need a new front end and knees.

Agreed. Folk spend literally thousands on Gucci suspension setups, fancy wheels, overrated brakes etc. But it’s all for naught if the crucial bit between the van & the road isn’t up to scratch. Any of it is only as good as the tyres.
 
Went for Yoko Geolander G015 in the end. So much quieter than my wrecked BFGs. Much smoother drive and better in the wet. Wanted the G018 but only one available in UK with no resupply date.
