Turbo problem

Hi - I am new to the forum and dont know much a bout engines but I have a 68plate 204PSi T6 and the vehicle went into limp mode after a service (incidentally) - I had some sensors changed - it worked for a while then back into limp mode, I took it to another supposed VW specialist who cleaned the DPF filter, this disnt work - they strongly recommended removing the DPF filter which i did and had the engine remapped ( a bit naughty I know) , still gone into limp mode. Now they are saying I need new turbos and whole engine needs removing to fit these and cost will be circa £4.5 k - is this a total rip off ?

There are known issues with the 204 CXEB engine.
No good mechanic in their right mind would map a defective engine.
To get any assistance on here I’d recommend removing the map and posting a full VCDS scan along with mileage and service history including repairs, chronologically with mileage and the reason why / outcome.
Otherwise it’s complete guesswork.

So extra info here....

Thanks - I will discuss this with garage but I seem to get charged £90 everytime the compuer gets plugged in with no concrete or conclusive results .... spending a fortune and going round in circles 😡

I am also told the whole engine needs to be removed to fit the turbos - is this true / any comments on £4.5K cost ?

Trying to make a defective engine go faster is never going to end well. Have a look at the T&C’s for the re-map.

What is the oil consumption like? Is it using lots?
Regarding getting a scan and being charged each time, it might be worth getting the VCDS scan tool yourself. Or maybe get a forum member local to you willing to do a scan for you for a few beers.

Thanks - I dont think I have explained properly - I am definitely not trying to make the engine go faster - i am just trying to stop it going into limp mode and following advice from various garages. I just wanted to know if the turbo replacement is a possible fix - its an expensive one but reading the threads seems to be a recurring theme...

No its not using lots of oil and I rigourously follow the oil change regime.

You could carry out a Miller oil analysis for £40, this will indicate with high probability if the engine is still in good shape or if it is degraded.
Have a Search on the Forum for details.
