Transporting long timber with tailgate

I use my T6.1 to transport the odd bit of long timber which stops me fully locking the tailgate. Currently I secure the tailgate by threading rope through the tailgate handle and through the eyelets on the floor, while wrapping a ball of cloth around the timber and letting the tailgate rest on that.

Just wondering if anyone has found a better solution securing the tailgate? Obviously risk damaging the tailgate when using it like this and while I am careful I am always wincing when travelling like this!

Any ideas welcome :)

Presumably you could use a standoff, and make the tail into a loop to hold the rope?

I did something similar when I owned a Zafira many moons ago.

Aye thanks I have seen these while browsing for ideas. Definitely a better solution that stretching rope everywhere. I used a bungee last week which stretched too much so I took to the forum lol

Have a good weekend and thanks for replying.

Make sure secure, must not hang out any longer than 1m from edge of bumper. Cops always like low hanging fruit to hit ticket quota here in NI
