Traction Control - ESC/ASR & HDA switch retrofit

Signal wire to the ABS module is now in pin 9, with the little sealing plug installed. No lights on the dash so far, so my van still has working brakes!

Next I touched the other end of the wire on ignition live (still need to get the actual switch) and SUCCESS!

Many thanks indeed to @mmi for the code discovery, and also @Bundy88 for sharing data. T6.1 hill descent appears to be cracked!

My switch arrived and after some wrestling with the dash plastics to get to the back to pop the old one out, I could put the new switch in. New wire in position 4 on the connector, and the lights at least work. Need to try it out on a steep hill next to see if it actually does anything!

I’ve just been out and tried it on a steep hill, and it does activate exactly as described in the manual. Indication that it is operating is a slightly brighter glow to the icon in the dash, which you don’t really notice unless you stare at it changing! Brakes kick in to hold at whatever slow pace you were at.

Hi All,

Using a bit of spare time to add more upgrades to the van and finally get round to fitting the ESC and HDC buttons that I've had for quite a while! Got everything pinned and wired as per the wiring diagrams but when trying to get into the ABS Module I keep getting this message come up on VCDS so i cant do the coding. Anyone got any pointers or advice?

You have two choices, you can either type the new coding in manually into the byte box if you know the value you want (thats highlighted with the cursor in your pic above) or you can click LCode2 on the top menu and it will give you full list of blank bits with all the tickboxes available to select

Thanks @Pauly I had tried typing it into the Byte box and amending the value but couldn't get it to work. Tried it one more time and it has done it this time!

Hi,
What is the correct pinout for difflock switch ?
i want to use difflock switch as hill assist switch becouse i couldn't find hda swtich. Is it the same with TC switch as
pin3 illimunation +
pin4 +12
pin5 output signal when pressed
pin6 ground

Thank you

Ok, daft question, why turn it off, I thought it slowed the spinning wheel, so that the drive could be transmitted to the one with grip, otherwise you would or could land up with all the drive going to the spinning wheel and you going nowhere? Similar to a 4x4 being cross axled, unless you have a diff lock in an axle, centre diff lock would not help.
As Pauly has suggested but also some specific situations where traction control can be a hindrance, snow, some times electronic traction aids are out performed by manual control and also off road. Although my vehicle is a 4Motion Caravel with rear Differential lock off road tyres and sometimes deflated for additional grip, climbing on slippery ground wet grass for instance cam be a real awkward situation particularly if the surface has been polishes perhaps with a little underlying mud but not muddy per say just greasy. In this situation traction control hiders because I need an aggressive attack on the slope with speed and plenty of revs, the opposite that one might normally use when off road. If traction control detects slippage it will brake that wheel or wheels and also reduce power just when it is needed. This can be a very nuanced situation as I approach the most slipper bit I may reduce power momentarily before replying. This is particularly so when approaching the S bend at the top of my land just as I turn through a gate into the next field. I must say I have prematurely opened and stayed the gate beforehand because when its bad any stopping and that is it! I would need a difficult controlled decent before trying again each time more difficult than the last. Sometimes it as preferable to rip the surface of grass and greasy mud and find what is underneath again this require aggression and counter intuitive approach and also traction control get in the way.

In the winter I may automatically switch off the control just in case when off road I would also have the diff lock on even down hill. If any one emulates any f this they must be aware of safety. Unless in ruts the rear end can Fish-Tail violently and could seriously injure or kill anyone near so keep the way clear of animals and people. In fact any activity off road one should always consider others. Walking passengers should always be told that they must keep there eyes on the vehicle and the driver should he demand some self protective action.

If you have a t6.1, the HDA switch comes as a set with diff lock and ASC Off. On a T6 it is a separate switch.

On this thread somewhere not found it yet but I bought one!
Thank you for your answer but may be i didn't express myself right. I have a t6 2015 and i already retrofitted esp off & hill assist with ordinary raido buttons as these oem buttons newer imported to my country. Few days ago i found esp button and diff lock buttons on a imported dash and bought them. So i will try to use diff lock button as hda assist button until i found a proper one. I just wanted to be sure about pin out off that button before proceed
